Video Studio 8 problem

Post by picman2 »

I'm trying to install my Video Studio 8 Version on to my laptop with Vista but it seems to be missing the : "Share Video Online". option.
Does anyone know how to get this to come up please. I have my original registered disk copy etc.
I've found it needs this: "Share Video Online" option for it to work on Vista.

Does any have a fix for this please?

#1, version 8 won't work on Vista.

#2, the Share Video Online option wasn't even available on v8. That was introduced much later (v12/X2?)

Actual VS8 does have the Share Video online option.

It does work on WinXP, however I don't know what it would take to get it to work consistently on Vista. Have you tried running it under WinXP compatibility mode? You probably will also need to change the Windows appearance to Windows Classic.

I don't think that the online video sharing has any bearing on if it will run on Vista. Ulead and now Corel, has changed this on-line video sharing considerably since VS8. They've used, now obsolete Neptune for the service used by this feature to upload videos to. Stop and think, VS8 was just slightly before YouTube's big explosion. In fact YouTube may not have existed back then.

Edited
Ok so I tested the Share on-line, and shockingly it still works  VS8 uses http://www.mediashare.com/. I was able to successfully upload a video to it.

My version of Studio 8 Has the "Share Video Online" option on it. (From my disk with serial number).
And it runs on XP Fine.
But if I try and save a video with photos on it using the file save option I get a cross hair on each photo as a fault. So I save using the Share Video Online option which gets around this problem.

I've found the exact same issue on my version of Vista but the trouble is when I installed video studio on this computer it doesn't have the Share Video Online option for some reason. I'm not sure what's going on. I'm not sure if I installed an upgrade but it still says video studio 8.00.0000

I can save my videos with photos on Vista okay but I get the cross hairs on each photo. So I need to try and get the Share Video Online option working.

I've had no luck getting the latest new version of video studio to work as it has .dll faults in the program so I'm back to my video studio 8 which is a great program for what I want.

I've also found you don't need to upload the video but it rather just saves to my computer without faults this way without the cross hair issue on photos.
I've been making videos this way for years now. (Over 800)

If you know how to get the "Share Video Online" Under share to show up on the Video Studio 8 program I would be grateful thanks.

Your version number should show 8.01.1000. Have you installed the patches? If not and you do not have them click on the Patches & Updates link at the top of the web board. Then on Corel's website click on the link Ulead Patches & Updates. This will open a window with all the discontinued products, where version 8 is located. You will first download a zip file that contains a PDF. The links to download the updates and patches are found in the PDF.

Next you might also go to MS DirectX webpage, download and install the most current version of DirectX. This is not included with the normal/routine Windows updates.

I tried adding the upgrades and using the compatablity options some time ago but none of those add the "Share Video Online" option to the software.
Perhaps the Vista software doesn't allow that option to be loaded upon installation?

That would be my guess. I'm out of ideas on how to get this to work for you. If the on-line icon is not present, that would be a GUI (graphical user interface) issue, and most of the time just updating the directx drivers will correct it.

Hi

I think I am missing something here….When you say

But if I try and save a video with photos on it using the file save option.
What do you actually mean, how are you creating the video file if not using Share Video On line.

You should be doing Share Create Video file-Custom-WMV

There is a photo above of the software above and it still offers the create a video file which can be saved in varied formats. But when used it creates a cross hair fault line in each photo of the video.

But when you use the "share video online" save option the lines are not there when you save it to your desktop.

I'm still using it this way on my desktop with XP.
But I cant use the same software on my laptop with Vista at present because the "share video online"option isn't there in the software to use.

Hi

I have just installed VS 8 on my laptop.
The option for “share on line “ is not available, which is expected I suppose.

I can however create good looking WMV files using Share Create Video File – Custom – WMV-Options-profile

I don’t know what I am doing differently to you, but there are several ways to open the encoder software.

When I use Share Video On Line-Best Quality the WMV encoder uses these settings.

Windows Media Video
24 Bits, 640 x 480, 30 fps
Frame-based
44.100 KHz, 16 Bits, Stereo

Choosing Share Create Video File – Custom-WMV-Options-Profile as Neptune Best uses the same settings

Windows Media Video
24 Bits, 640 x 480, 30 fps
Lower Field First
44.100 KHz, 16 Bits, Stereo

The route to open the encoder should make no difference to the final rendered video.

This cross-hair fault line on the photos has me baffled where it may be coming from. What photo format(s) are you using? Are you applying any effects or filters to those photos? What, if any, pre-editing did you do with them, and what program did you use? I would suspect that if the cross-hairs was some glitch with running VS8 on Vista, Trevor would have mentioned it.

Hi Guys,
The custom video choice solved the problem thanks.
Here are the details for others:

Using photos in movies using Video Studio 8 in Vista.

Make video as usual then click on Create Video File.
Then custom:
Then Options:
Then save as type: wmv
Then options again:
Then Choose Profile and select: Neptune best quality.

If you don't choose the best quality option at the end the video will be of poor quality.

Many thanks to all that helped solve this issue for me.

I'm happy it's working out for you.. :)

I did install VS8 on my laptop (Vista). With mine the on-line sharing is there. However I discovered another issue, that is about the same as that with MSP8, no audio. When I render a video file, the audio is there. I kept getting an error referencing DirectX. Anyway since I'm just testing, and that it will soon be removed from my laptop, I wasn't concerned with it.

Again, glad it's working for ya! :)

Hi

Glad you managed to create a good WMV.

Ron I didn’t have a problem with Audio errors, but then I used the samples from the library which don’t have audio.
Will give it another go using a proper video file. :D

picman2

Try using Make Movie Manager to create the WMV template.
It will then be available to use from Share Create Video File adjacent to the Custom option.
