I have been unable to use any of the transitions in the Video Studio X3 program. When I drag the transition to the time line, it will not drop on the time line. It shows a circle with a line through it.
and will not allow the drag and drop. Does the transition function not work on the Trial version? Please help-Thanks you so much.

Hello and welcome to the forums
The transitions in the trial version do work - but you should note that you can only place transitions over joins in the video - you cannot just place them anywhere. If there is no split at the point where you require a transition then you must first cut the video at that point and put the transition on the cut.
To cut the video use the 'scissor' tool - highlight your video in the timeline by clicking on it - the scissor tool just under the preview screen will then become available to you - put the timeline cursor at the point you want the cut - then click the scissor tool - this will cut the video at that point and you can then put a transition there.
Another thing which often catches new users out is that with nearly all the transition you loose a little bit of your video - because in order to transist the programme virtually overlaps the two pieces of video by the length you have set for the transition - it does that so that it can start to take the picture from the second bit while still showing the end of the first bit so that the transition effect works smoothly.

Re: Unable to Use Transitions-When Dragging see a circle wit
Hi Brian,
Thanks for getting back so quickly.
I tried this but I have the graphic on the overlay. I wanted to create a transition for the overlay graphic so it just doesn't "appear" but gradually transitions in and than out.
When I highlight the video, and use the scissors, it cuts into the video. Can't I create a transition on the graphic itself?
Thanks Brioan for your help.

A transition must go from something, then to something. In other words, it bridges one clip to another. Without another clip next to it you cannot use a transition. If your clip is alone in the middle of an overlay track and you want to fade it in you must use the Fade button.
