problems with capturing with videostudio

Post by jrfillmore »

I am WAY frustrated. When I try to capture from my Canon Vixio HV30 HDV and firewire, I get tons of really bad skipping. Video captured is unusable because of it!

I just spent $3500 on a brand new, pretty high powered dell Studio XPS 9100 with Intel core i7-930 processor, 8GB mem at 1333mhz, and 2 1TB hard drives. Sole purpose is to edit and create movies for my family. I also bought VideoStudio Pro X3 and installed it. I have very few other things on the computer and when I look at resources being used when capturing, it is very low percentage of memory, cpu, etc.

I had older version of VideoStudio on my old dell optiplex computer and I could capture just fine with that old beat up computer with same video camera and firewire. (I decided to upgrade because I was running out of hard drive and needed another computer anyway.)

There is no way I can see that it is a computer "resource" problem because my new computer is vastly better than old one and has a lot less stuff installed. New computer has windows 7 professional (old one had XP).

I'm pulling my hair out to have this problem after blowing that much money on new equip. Can anyone help?

thanks! Jack

Welcome to the forums,

There's been problems reported related to hyperthreading with Intel's i7 processors. Disabling the hyperthreading in your system bios is a possible work-around to this problem.

...And while I (fortunately) have no trouble capturing HDV from my Canon HV-20 on my old geezer of a Quad 6600 using X2 or X3, in fact these days I prefer to use a small freeware program called HDVSplit, though you will have to Google for it as I no longer have the URL. But it does a great job. And you should not get too hung up on using multiple applications in any one video editing project. That includes capturing!! So if disabling hyperthreading each time you need to do some video editing is too much of a hassle, try HDVSplit...

Hi Jack

What version of Video Studio are you using. :?:
If its X2 then Smart Proxy needs enabling, I believe X3 has this turned on by default
