New working folder

Post by Leif G »

I am now nearly finished with my first project in Video Studio Pro X3,and want to start a new one.
I am not yet ready to delete my old project files,so to keep things separated I wonder if it is possible
to create a new working folder?
I can create a new folder, but is that enough? I need more than one folder don't i ?
It all seems to be in the Corel VS Pro folder. There is My project, and one named 13.0,
(why it's called 13.0 I don't know)wich contains the proxy files,and also Audio tmp.
So how do I go about it?

Press F6 and in the preferences set the path for the new working folder.... how you set that up is up to you.

What I do is I have a video dump folder...which is seperated into subfolders where I dump all the captured video and other assests I'll need for the project.

I save the VSP file in a seperate folder where I also save any created video files .

(why it's called 13.0 I don't know)
VideoStudio version X3: X (Roman numeral for 10) plus 3 = 13.

Hi

Video Studio uses a default Working Folder, some of the edit options require creating new files, these are sometimes saved to the “Working Folder”.
Otherwise we are given to option to select a save location.
Capturing video saves the files to the working folder. Aka Capture Folder.
Taking a Snap Shot comes to mind, this image will also be saved to the working folder.

I create a new folder for each project I work on, My Holiday etc
I create sub folders within the main folder for Video, Images, Audio etc.
The saved project the VSP file is saved within the main folder.

I can allocate Video Studio to use any folder on my hard drive as its working folder,
Obviously I choose to use My Holiday folder, cos that’s the project I’m working on.

Yes,after some trying and testing I have found that it's not possible to change
the folder where the proxy-files are stored. They are still placed in the default folder(13.0).
I can if I want to keep things more tidy create a back-up copy of it somewhere, and then
empty the original folder for receiving new proxy-files. But if I want to open my old projekt I would have to
move around the folders again to make it work.
I don't know if it's worth the trouble. The important thing is to have back-up.
The Project folder is no problem, since I can decide to save my projects anywhere I like.
One thing that puzzles me is the audio.tmp files. When are they created? They don't seem to be created
when I replace the video-audio with another audio file? Or does it happen only after I have rendered the project?
There is a lot of .tmp files.

Hi

When I go to Settings-Smart Proxy Manager-Settings, or (F6)opens a Properties window.
Under the Performance Tab I see the option to allocate a Proxy Folder
By default its here:-
C:\Documents and Settings\Trevor\My Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\Corel VideoStudio Pro\13.0\

I have no problem in changing this location.

Sorry for the late answer, but thank you Trevor, I found it.
Never looked carefully enough.
One has to do a lot of guessing. I am trying to guess what the difference is between the two
settings of the special scroll-button down in the left corner. One is showing pointing to the middle, the other
pointing to far right. But what does it mean? I can't see any difference in the behaviour.

And another thing I just discovered. It is not possible to minimize the program when the rendering is going on.
Since the rendering often takes quite long time it would be convinient to be able to do something else during
that time,if the computer has enough power for it.

No, you can't minimize it, but you can certainly use other programs. If they are already open use Alt+Tab to toggle between them. If you want to open a new program while VS is running simply press the Windows button to bring up the task bar/start menu.

Those scroll buttons do work, badly though. You must repeatedly click on them, not just click and hold.
