Hi,
Anyone able to advise if it's possible to transfer any related system files over from a proprietary OEM version of VS8SE to a full standard version of VS9, in order to support an OEM capture hardware?
Specifically, I bought a Creative Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor which came supplied with a customised version of VS8 SE. It remains the only software in the World that recognises the board.
Would appreciate if anyone who has tweaked previous versions before, advise on what are the possible/necessary to transfer over that may make it work? Doesn't mind risking some crashes during the attempts .... if only to prove that it can't be done.
Lots of thanks.
Making VS9 recognise an OEM video capture hardware?

Try copying the HERCAP.INI file from the VS8SE folder in: C:\Documents and Settings\(Your User Name)\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\8.0 and put it in the VS9 folder in the same directory: C:\Documents and Settings\(Your User Name)\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\9.0. The Application Data folder is a hidden folder, so you would have to enable your folder options to view hidden folders.
Hope this works for you

Will give it a try.
Hi llama, tks for the input ... will give it a try.
But would there be other files to copy over too, e.g. the relevant driver and .dll files? I'll take a peek at what's laid out inside the hercap.ini file too.
Tks, again .. will revert if the results are positive.

Tks to llama's previous input, an extended attempt was made.
Just a follow-up to put the results on record ...
In this particular instance and with this particular box, the attempt was considered a failure; which still leaves a lot of Creative Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor box owners in the world upset.
(For the uninitiated, the Creative box at first appeared as a Godsend for video editors with its built-in hardware rendering engine featuring the DominaFX chip, USB2 connection, less than US$250, etc. - and the capture from any analog source to MPEG is indeed beautiful and free from artifacts. Problem is, the box only works and captures from the bundled VS8 SE software which is a customised release between Creative and Ulead, AND nothing else in the Universe! - NOT even a generic VS8.)
After many attempts of copying the HERCAP.INI (and even all the relevant driver files) between VS8 and VS9, ensuring that all corners are covered - the file exists in PROGRAM FILES\VS 9 and also the DOCUMENTS AND USERS\...\APPLICATION DATA\ULEAD\VS 9; it got only as far as an blurry un-sync capture image in the Preview Window.
Note: From the box's users' experience, this symtom simply means that the PC did not 'reset' the USB connected box properly.
Cheers.
