I use Paint Shop Photo Pro X3 and I am experiencing numerous problems with the Organizer. I keep my photos on a separate USB drive, and it appears that Organizer does not properly handle the files that are stored on that drive. The image files are all JPG.
I have experienced many different problems, but I will only give three examples below to illustrate the problems.
Example 1. Tag problem.
When I use Organizer to tag files and immediately afterwards, without disconnecting the drive or closing the program, click the corresponding new tag name that has been automatically created under "Collections \ Tags", the lower (thumbnail) part of the screen only displays "Images not found". Clicking the new tag collections should have made all the images with that tag appear. Organizer finds none - why?
Example 2: Search results not saved
I click the "Computer tab" and select the external drive on which I store my files. I click the small magnifying glass and perform a search, for example for images tagged with "Outdoor". I get several hits and save the search, for example calling it "Outdoor pictures". Then I switch back to the "Collections tab" find the new search "Outdoor pictures" stored under "Smart collections". I click it and expect the files from the search results to be displayed as thumbnails, instead: "Images not found". Why?
Example 3: Poor search results
I switch to the "Computer tab" and perform a search for images with a certain tag. The search may come up with no results, or only images from some folders. Normally much fewer hits than files i know match the search criteria. Why? Does Organizer not search sub-folders?
I also experience several other similar problems.
HELP?
Best regards
M

Re: Organizer doesn't find tagged files, saved search result
Welcome to the forums,
I don't know if this has any affect on the organizer, but I've noticed that with Windows Vista's search, I need to use the Advance Search, and check the box beside Include non-indexed..... Also without using the Advanced Search, it seems that the default is set to Indexed Locations only. So my thinking on this is, you may need to set your drives and/or folders to be indexed by Windows. Like I said I don't use PSP organizer, so have not done any testing in this manner.
Edited
I just done a quick test. I tagged some photos in the organizer. I then was able to locate them, by going to the Tags menu on the left, where it produced the tags I placed on the various photos. Clicking on the tag name, produced those photos with that tag. The search box at the bottom was useless though.

Re: Organizer doesn't find tagged files, saved search result
I tried what you suggested, Ron. I set Vista to index the USB hard-drive I keep my photos on. It did not help. The organizer still does not find tagged images when i search for them. I still have the same problem with the saved search results disappearing, too.
Some additional questions:
- Are the tags stored in the picture file, or only in a database?
- Corel starts a process called Media Cataloger. I guess it has something to do with indexing images for the Corel data base. Is it possible to set the drive / paths that Corel will catalog?
- My impression is that Organizer is useless. Is that a common opinion on the forum, or is it only me?
Thanks,
M

Re: Organizer doesn't find tagged files, saved search result
I read the above... then I noted the date and lack of response... which is worrying cos I have same problem... but with a twist.
This is my first post but have been using PSP for many many years.
Scenario1..
Laptop W7 Ultimate. PSP X3 + patches 1, 2, 3, 4.
In Organiser. Browse to add new folder.
Add a Photo Folder which is stored on my NAS. Many subdirectories, Year/Month etc.. 1000's of pics.
Sometime later, I had a complete "TAG" listing in Organiser of some 50+ tags and all working fine. Click on a Tag and I get all pics from all directories etc..
As you would expect.
Sames scenario on Desktop running Vista Ultimate, PSP X3, with pathces 1, 2, 3, 4 . Pointed at the same Photo folder on the NAS....
Nothing.
The Media Catalog process is running at between 4 and 15% CPU usage, but ... nothing. No Tags appear.
Tags only appears if I browse the folder and 'hover mouse' over a tagged image. Then the Tag pops into the Tag list. But clicking on that Tag will only show that ONE photo , not all others tagged with same.
It seems that Oragniser has no TAG capability under Vista... anybody any ideas ?

Re: Organizer doesn't find tagged files, saved search result
Good to see the forums are active and alive ...NOT... oh well.
Never mind. I am increasingly dissapointed with PSP so I may seek an alternative.
Tagging is a mystery. Organizer hangs on my machines. Laptop W7, Desktop with Vista Ultimate , doesnt seem to matter.
It takes an AGE to startup PSP nowadays regardless of processor power or RAM. Bring back PSP7 and 8 and the old Browser.
And I gave up on Corel Project when it took 20 minutes just to list the images from a LOCAL directory before I could even begin to create a slideshow !!
How they let such software out the door is what suurprises me... anmd its not my machines... they run some heavy video software (CS5.5) no problem.

Re: Organizer doesn't find tagged files, saved search result
Sorry there has not been anymore replies on this. Probably because, as you have discovered some of the major flaws with PSP X3. As I stated in my previous post, I don't use tagging, and definitely don't use the Project Creator. There's several seasoned users that feel the same as you, that Corel needs to stop adding a bunch of fluff, and stick to the way Jasc had intended. The only real version of PSP I have is Jasc PSP 9. PSP X2 and now X3 are not examples of how the program should be.
I have a gut feeling that Corel will see a very sharp decline in sales of PSP over the next year..

Re: Organizer doesn't find tagged files, saved search result
100% agreed..
I still use PSP8 for browsing etc.
So what do you use for Tagging. I dont need catalogue.. I just need
1 - A pic Browser
1- A Tag editor
2 - Ability to search on Tags (which I accept requires some form of DB / Index somewhere)
I downloaded trial of Photoshop Elements. Its no better. Complete OVERKILL on thecatalogue picture management side.
I use Adobe CS5 for video editing etc..( but not Photoshop.) a top end profressional video package that runs well on my machine. Videos renbder fast, realtime redering is good... but COrel PSP is SLOW and painful. And its just dealing with static images.
I am certinaly seeking an alternative.
Bring back JASC.
