ISO file

Post by raymack »

Hi everyone,
I want to share my disappointment with you all. I have been trying to get some sense out of Corel about ISO files. I have just purchased the latest version of VideoStudio Pro X3. After some back and forth they said that the program will make an ISO file. They sent this screenshot.
Create Disc Image-2.jpg
Create Disc Image-2.jpg (57.95 KiB) Viewed 7101 times
I sent them a screen shot from my computer showing that the program doesn't give me this facility. Since sending this information I have had no response from them. The program gives me the choice to "Create Video Folders", but not ISO file.

Have others found this same problem?

It is capable of creating an ISO file. Instead of selecting VIdeo Disc from the Create menu, select Backup Disc. That will get you to the screen that you see from Corel's screenshot. I know it's not what you want, but, you probably asked them about creating an ISO file, and they answered that it could. Can you create an ISO file of a Video DVD? I'm not sure about that one. I don't use the program, so I would have to do some digging around. Currently I don't think so.

Hi Ray

The DVD Movie Factory pro 2010 was provided as X3 authoring program, unfortunately is not a very good, in fact its total rubbish.

Corel have recognised their mistake by providing DVD Movie Factory 7SE as its replacement
Available as a free download to X3 owners, you are of course advised to use this program.

And yes, you can create an ISO file (Disc Image) simply by selecting the appropriate option on the last page of the burner module.
The file being save to the PC in a location of your choosing.

Hi Ron,
Thanks for the reply. I checked out what you said, but it's not what I want to do. In version 12 creating an ISO file was so easy.

Hi Trevor,
Thank you for your reply. I have tried to use MovieFactory without success.

I open a project in VideoStudio.
Go to Share.
Create Disc.
Select MovieFactory 7 SE.
VideoStudio closes and MovieFactory 7 SE opens.
I cannot find a way to open the *.vsp file. So I can't go on from this point.

Hi Ray

Unfortunately you cannot open a VSP file using Movie Factory7SE

From X3 complete your project by Share Create Video File
You should create a DVD Mpeg2 file.
Use this file in Movie Factory 7SE—add video files
This program is very similar to the authoring sections of X2 and earlier versions

Just to satisfy my curiosity Ray - why are you so concerned about not being able to create an ISO file - I found them such a nuisance that I gave up on them years ago - you need a special programme to burn DVDs from them and to view them. I changed to just creating DVD folders that you can copy to DVD with just about any disc copying programme and make as many copies as you like very quickly , and you can quickly view them using WinDVD or similar - are folders not an option for you ?

Hi Trevor and Brian,
First to Trevor. I have made a DVD and had a look at it. It seems to be quite good. Thanks for that information. The crazy thing is that after you load the Video File into MovieFactory the program is almost identical to version 12. Why oh why do they do such silly things and break what is already working?

Brian, the reason I went to making ISO files was that I was sick and tired of discs failing when trying to burn the DVD directly from the program. I have had great success with ISO files, but I will try making folders and see if I am happy with the results.

Thanks fellows.

Hi Ray

I use ISO files when needing multiple copies of my DVD.
The earlier versions of Video Studio provided the DVD/VCD Disc Image recorder to burn the ISO, why VS dropped this small piece of software I have no idea.
They allow you to create the iso but don’t provide means of burning it, seems strange to me.

Whether you create the Disc Image (ISO) or the DVD folders (Video_TS) the actual content is the same, so the quality of the final DVD will be the same.
The added advantage of DVD Folders is being able to play them as you would a DVD. As Brian mentioned using WinDVD.

Ray as you own X2 then why not use that authoring program to create your DVD.
Although having MF7se does give you a different variety menu templates.

Anyhow its good you were able to successfully burn a disc whatever option you chose.

Hi Trevor,
Thanks for your reply and thoughts. Yes I could use X2 to create an ISO file, but it annoys me that I purchase an upgrade thinking it should give me more features and do tasks more efficiently.

I think of someone buying this program for the first time, and if they have an average computer knowledge, what they would think of this mess. I wouldn't blame them if they didn't touch another Corel product with a 40 foot pole.

I have just made another DVD and the results are very good. I have attached 3 screen shots showing the settings I used.

Hi Ray

Try using Make Movie Templates Manager
This will create a template that can be used again, shows adjacent to the Custom option.

I use these settings:-

MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Lower Field First (Upper Field if analogue video)
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: 7000 kbps (constant bit rate)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

The Quality Speed slider
I have always used the default setting, some users have noticed an improvement whilst others haven’t.

Two pass encode
X3--I had some quality issues using Variable without Two – pass encode.
Having said that I normally use “constant” on all video less than 80 minutes long.

Audio
I use Digital Dolby, the file size is much lower than LPCM Audio ( I think a standard for NTSC video, although works equally as well with Pal)
Don’t know why but X3 has removed the Mpeg Audio option.

Hope this helps

I wouldn't equate computer knowledge with video editing knowledge.

Hi Trevor,
Thanks for info. I will try these setting to see how it goes. I too, had quite a bit of trouble with Two - Pass. I have just checked one of my old projects and found that I had Variable set. When I used Two - Pass the resultant product was very jittery viewed on a TV. If I turned Two - Pass off i got a very stable product.

PS - I got a reply back from Corel. They finally told me that X3 can't create ISO files the same as X2 can.

Hi Ray

Two Pass, just to clarify, I had quality issues when I rendered without Two Pass.
Using Two Pass improved things.

X3 and ISO

Corel have provided DVD Movie Factory 7SE as the preferred authoring program.
You can create ISO files using this program
The program is similar to the X2 authoring module.
