Burning to DVD-Video TS/ISO Image-What's the Difference?

Post by geraghtyg »

When I have finished a project on VS9 and am burning to DVD, I have the option of making an ISO disc image file, a video TS folder or both.
I have always just created a video TS folder as it does what I want it to do - I use copy to dvd for making further copies and I just select the relevant video TS folder to burn onto dvd.
Could someone please explain what an ISO disc image file is and how it differs fo the Video TS folder and also why I should also create an ISO file when creating a dvd if the video TS file does the job fine.

Thanks

Hi,

ISO files are image fils that burning software use to write to the DVD sector by sector. It is the surest writing strategy and it does increase compatibililty a bit.

Writing to disc can be dicey for some in that the DVD writing can be interupted by software/hardware during the write. I will usually make one DVD and ISO at the same time, but all discs afterwards are done by the ISO file.

Writing folders and copying them to the disc is okay - it is exactly like dragging files to another disc, and will give generally good results. But some DVD players look for specific information in specific sectors. Writing the folders doesn't do that.

The .ISO file is burned to DVD using the Ulead-supplied VCD-DVD Disk Image Recorder, which appears in Programs > Ulead VideoStudio.

I've not been able to use Nero to burn an .ISO file.

That's an easy one, since Nero5: File|Open then select file type: Image Files (*.nrg,*.iso,*.cue), select your file, OK, File|Burn Image

Thanks for the info everyone. I'll try burning an ISO image as well as the TS folder next time I'm finishing a project and I'll see how I get on. Very rarely get fails or complaints when doing it the old way but it'll do no harm to try. Thanks again from chilly Ireland
