Trouble with X2 in Win 7

Post by phnxrsngbr »

Is anyone having troubles with X2 crashing constantly in Win 7? I've used both the patches, normally run nothing else with the program (except now with this email), and it is freezing and crashing about every 5 minutes, seriously. I do have X3 but decided not to install it because of the poor reviews I've read here and other places online. I just purchased it.

The machine I'm now running is brand new (not the specs I have listed online here) and fast, purchased solely for this program which won't run on it. And it wouldn't run on the older machine either, which blew up after using the program extensively. I'm quickly getting to the point of dumping VS completely and finding another program to purchase for video production. This is way too frustrating. Since I started writing this email the program froze up 3 times, so that's 3x in about 6 minutes.

Any ideas on good quality video software would be appreciated as well.

Thanks very much!

Poor reviews for X3 :?: I, and many others on the forum, use X3 and don't have any problems. In fact, I think it is more stable than X2. Is it perfect? No. But there are things I like and dislike in just about every version I have used (since v8).

Maybe if you told us what you are trying to edit, the properties of the clips, the properties of the project, whether you are using an effects, any audio and their properties, etc.

Without knowing any details and just saying it freezes and asking for a solution is kind of like saying my car won't start, why? Need to look under the hood first.

It would also be extremely helpful if you told us what your new computer set-up is. If it has an i7 processor, quite a few users with those have had crashing problems with X3 in particular, though I think that the same would occur with X2. The solution is to go into BIOS and disable hyperthreading while editing. It apparently works, though I acknowledge it would be really annoying to have to reboot each time you wanted hyperthreading back for other applications.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

I'm using all 6 video tracks but making those into separate videos, then putting them on the timeline of the main project. I am using some effects but mostly it's a lot of video being used, laid on top of other video. Mostly my camcorder video. Music track as it's a music video, etc. I'm always doing a lot with all the tracks available to me, which is why I ended up having a computer made for me.

The motherboard is MSI 7585--which I was told was particularly good with Intel 7 series processors, Intel I7 series 4 core 870 2.93 ghz. 8 G ram, 600GB 10K RPM WD HD, Nvidia GF GTX 460. Audio is standard MP3, video is from my camcorder, mostly, with one or two clips gathered online, some from VS library.

I'll have to ask the guys who built this computer how to disable hyperthreading and see if it works. I don't even know what it is.

Thanks very much! :)

Hello phnxrsngbr,

If you are using VS X2 on Windows 7, you may want to download the service pack 2, in order to make the program Windows 7 compatible, since VS X2 is not compatible with Windows 7 when Win7 was first released. You can download the SP2 from this link: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 8647710467,

About VS X3, I'm on Windows 7 (64 bit) and I can tell you that its running perfectly fine, except of course for some bumps here and there but it is really stable, if you just purchase a copy of VS x3 and its not stable, best thing that you can do is to download all updates for the program from this link: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 0460544373

You can also contact our Tech Support, so that they can investigate the problem further.

HI Abiel,

Thanks very much for your help. I'm burning which will hopefully be a final copy of my current video now, and will install VS3. Hopefully it will cure my problems. :))
