I now know it's a fake but...

Post by clarke »

So I bought an "EasyCAP" now knowing that in your other topic that it is a fake, I honestly thought it was this cheap due to it just being obsolete, but my question is about the software, it included drivers which installed fine but serial was included for the video editing software, "video studio SE"

Is the software a fake as well or do you think I could get a serial for the purchase of it ?

Also, I bought this program from amazon, so would there be a way to report the product for it being a rip off or not containing full features ?

And my third final question is does anyone know any free video capture software I can try to use if I can't get anywhere with what was included in the package ?

The splash screen image you included looks genuine, but frankly, SE version of VS have always had a number included e.g. VS 8 SE or VS 10 SE. So calling it simply Video Studio SE, as they do, raises a certain suspicion in my mind.

It is also not clear to me whether they did nor did not include a serial number. You said they did, but if so, why do you need another serial number? Did the one they provided not work? In any case, I think you will find that the program, even if genuine, was long discontinued by Corel, and they could not issue a new SN even if they wanted to (which I doubt). Or are you asking if you could get a SN for the current version? If so, yes, but only by purchasing it.

You could certainly report the device to Amazon as being a rip-off, but since we are not really sure what the software is, it is difficult to call it a rip-off by itself. Moreover, SE version are never full featured.

As for your third question, I think you will find you will have problems with the device itself, and will probably have to replace it with something better. And any such device should come with its own software. The genuine EZCap comes with ArcSoft software.

The Video Studio Software is probably not fake, but it might be an older version. And as Ken said, the "free" (with hardware) SE versions have limited features. I have a feeling that Corel used to give away the SE version to hardware manufactures in hopes that the customer would upgrade to the full version. (The SE versions are never available without hardware unless you buy them from soneone on eBay.)
And my third final question is does anyone know any free video capture software I can try to use if I can't get anywhere with what was included in the package ?
Usually, capture hardware ONLY works with the manufacturer-supplied software & drivers.

Are you saying it's not working? Does the documentation that came with your EazyCap claim to work with your version of Windows?

Your hardware very unlikely to work with the current version of Video Studio. (You can download the free trial if you want to try.) Once you've got a digital A/V file on your hard drive, you can then use the video editing or DVD authoring software of your choice.

Hello clarke,

It's not a fake copy but if the installation process ask you for a serial number, we may not be able to give you one, since serial number for OEM version of our software are given of Manufacturers.

It's ok now guy's, the Serial number was tucked away tightly under all the packaging without mentioning what it was and when I found it, it took me a few minutes to realise what it was. The software works great now and has some nice features I can work with, I can't really say the same for the capture card device with it now being fake, it works, just not to the quality I was looking for but I got what I paid for which was cheap.

Thanks for all the help and I will be definitely making a warning in the comments section back on the sellers page.

That's nice that they did provide the serial number, even though you had to go on a treasure hunt to find it. I'm sure the seller is fully aware that what he/she is selling is not the real thing, and couldn't care less so long as they're getting money for them. ;)
