I have a scanned a large PNG file, which PSP refuses to load, it simply says its not a valid PNG file (which it is).
I'm assuming its because if the file is too big for PSP (I would have assumed it could use virtual memory).
Anybody know what the hardcoded limits for PSP is?

Re: Limits of PSP?
perhaps you could let us know the sizes of your file and someone can try to replicate the error.

Hello Auser,
Can you also tell us how you created the image and what program you used?

Re: Limits of PSP?
So nobody knows the limits, eh?
It was HP's scanning software.
Its 14016x44482x24
I tried loading it into the freeware program Ifranview and converted it to tiff and bmp to see if they would load, they wouldn't either

Re: Limits of PSP?
Well I know that if you try to make a new image they have a maximum size of 32767 pixels on my system. I would like to assume that it's the maximum size Paint Shop Pro can handle.
The height of your image is larger than that so that may be your problem.
Of course the help files state that your available Memory should be 2 to 3 times larger than the amount of memory required to open the image. So, for example, with both values set to 32767 the size in memory is 3072 MB so close to 3GB of memory which is standard for a 32-bit system. It's rare to require something this large. Even if you're printing for a bus.

Re: Limits of PSP?
Most scanning software I've used uses the old standard of multiplying the "bits" by the number of channels. 24 bit would be what you'd probably call 8 bit, since it's 8 bits per RGB channel. There's also a 32 bit if the scanner has the IR cleaning turned on and that adds yet another channel. RGBI.Ken Berry wrote:What does the 24 refer to -- 24 bit?
I've used HP's software and I believe it's this way. Vuescan and Microtek's software are the same as well.
