Windvd Pro 2010 - Error Code=1 on starting program

Post by mrcotton73 »

Hi,

I purchased Windvd Pro 2010 online from Corel.com and installed it yesterday. When I start the program, I get a popup which says "Product installation unsuccessful, please reinstall the software. Error Code=1". I have tried reinstalling multiple times - also followed instructions from this forum on a related thread to remove WinDVD manually by deleting registry keys - it did not help. Interestingly - I do not even see the following keys in regedit (under Wow6432Node - there's only an NVIDA key available - there isn't even a SOFTWARE level present):

# My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SOFTWARE\Corel\DVD10
# My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SOFTWARE\Corel\PCU\
# My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\5C1F18D2-F6B7-4242-B803-B5A78648185B

Another point -- I tried to install the patches -- tried Service Patch 1 - and it fails during install saying it could not find Windvd installed on the system.

Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

Thanks
mrcotton73.

Have you tried installing with Run as Administrator?

Something is interfering with Windows Installer. Are you running anti-virus software? If so, I would recommend disabling your anti-virus software (be sure the service is stopped in the Task Manager) and re-attempting installation.

Hello mrcotton73,

You may want to manually remove the WinDVD 2010 then reinstall the program from the download link or the disc.
Answer ID 764253 - How to manually remove Corel WinDVD 2010 (Standard or Pro)?

Thanks for the replies.

To Abiel -- I did try that (see my initial post -- I deleted registry keys and manually deleted the folders) and reinstalled -- did not work.

I am pretty sure my account has Admin privilege but I didn't try running as Administrator -- so I will try that - and also will try disabling Kaspersky in services (though I think I did kill Kaspersky at one point when reinstalling). I will try these tonight and post back.

Thanks

OK - I tried reinstalling by selecting "Run as administrator" - did not work either.

I must mention that I manually deleted the previous installation again, did a search through the registry and manually deleted all keys / values I could find and then reinstalled -- and still no luck.

Just purchased this software & expeirienced same problem several times. I am using AVG virus protection. I had to disable the Resident Shield portion of the protection to allow the program to operate. You may try disabling your virus protection to install. This fixed my problem. Good Luck

For those still having issues, make sure to uninstall WinDVD Pro 2010 and install using the following:
http://bit.ly/XcvBQE

Then install Service Pack 7 using following link:
http://bit.ly/Zq5T5x

You should then be good to go. I was having similar issue as OP as patches would not detect WinDVD Pro 2010 install. My guess is the original installer was the trial version and had issues related to reinstallation.
