VSx2 Pro audio disappeared?!

Post by esclava »

Hello,

This is really odd... I checked in the forums and didn't seem to come across this problem with anyone else... I was working on a project and after having found an answer in the forums, I had saved a few mpeg2 files. I had made several tests, like changing mpeg2 compression settings, etc. Nothing involving audio, though, since I was working with images. SO then after I finished that project I went on to my next one that involves audio. I dragged a clip into the timeline and played it, only to find out the audio is gone! But not really...only in VideoStudio! I can play the raw file(s) on my computer. I can get no audio whatsoever to play within VideoStudio. And this is something that happened to me within the last hour or so because I have been working with audio all day!

And so I uninstalled VideoStudio and fresh installed it. The problem persists. I hope someone has a suggestion! I am strapped for time! I was wondering if I am going to have to delete something from my registry? Maybe the clean install wasn't sooo clean?

Thanks so much in advance!

Is it possible VS cannot handle the .raw audio files? Have you tried converting the audio files to .wav format?

Can you explain a bit more about this RAW file Esclava - while I would admit that I am not fully up to date with all the 'flavours' of RAW files I am under the impression that they are all image files - not video or audio. I also can not see in the VideoStudio import options any mention of raw files - so how did you get them into VideoStudio and into which track of the timeline have you inserted them.

Please post the full properties of the RAW file.

And please clarify whether you mean ".raw" or "raw", as in untouched/unedited files (as I was interpreting it). Whichever, please post the clip's properties.

Yup...Black Lab was right. I have never used .raw files  Sorry for not being clear. I forgot they exist!! Anyways, I am referring to untouched, unedited files in general. Actually, I have tried a variety of file types...I tried to play .mpeg2, .wmv videos and .wma, .wav audio files. Absolutely NO audio plays from any type of file. Audio or video. I think I am going to try and restore my pc to an earlier date, like yesterday morning before this all started happening. If that fixes it, I think it would be safe to assume that there was bug that created itself or a temporary glitch. The thing is that I have never experienced anything this weird when working with VS. And I know it's not my pc's audio because I can play music/videos in any media player. Just nothing audio related in VS. Thanks for all your help. I will post if the system restore fixes the problem.

Isn't there some hidden VS setting in the Windows audio settings? I'm sure someone will clarify.

EDIT: and this stupid forum's search won't let me look for it because each search word must contain at least 3 characters. Sorry, but "no", as in no audio, only has 2 characters.

Jeff, that's what the message is telling you. The keywords must have a minimum of 3 characters/letters, and no only has 2.

It didn't help, but I changed the 3-character minimum to 2(two) character minimum. I then tried running a search for no audio and it still rejects it, saying that audio is too common. What a bunch of stink-o!! Nothing much else we can do about it.

OKay! Thanks everyone for your help. I did the system restore point thing and when it comepleted, it told me that there was some weird error. SO -- I immediately tried opening VS and that was the only program that got messed up with the restore thing. I reinstalled the whole program now and it's working great. Just like normal. I have no idea what happened to trigger that! I hate to have to think the only solution is to do what I did...kinda big waste of time  But at least if it IS a workaround, that's okay, too.... I just think the whole issue is weird.

Thanks again!

Yes Ron, I realize that. That was just my sarcastic comment.
