use second audio file

Post by umarhameed »

I want to use an external audio recording device to record the sound. I want to disable the audio track from the camera and sync the audio track from my external device with the video from the camera. All of this in editing.

Any ideas how to do this especally the syncing of sound and video.

Welcome to the forums,

Not knowing how your transferring or capturing your video, or the audio. However once you have the video and audio on your pc, it's just a matter of dropping the video onto the video track, then muting the audio for your video. This is done on the attributes panel. Drop your audio onto one of the audio tracks, and proceed to sync it to the video. Do you have some cue established in your video and audio so that you will know where to line them up?

Listen and watch. Ron's suggestion of a cue is just that. Listen and watch for something that happens during the performance (hand clap, cymbal crash, door slam, etc.) and sync them up.

I am having difficulty finding the attribute panel. I see a menu item called, "copy attributes" but I cant find the panel to mute audio on a particular track.

Sorry, I should have advised the Video Panel, which is part of the Options panel, the other being the Attributes.

I believe you can also right click a clip and choose Mute.

I split the clip from the video in hopes of matching the wave form patterns (I was using 3 claps to sync-up the audio files). Since the audio file has been split the mute button on the video section is having no effect.

The logical place to put a mute button would be if one right clicked on the audio file in question. But on my software version that is missing!

If you want to mute an audio clip - you simply delete it - mute is only for use on a video file with audio in it

The Mute button only controls audio contained in a video clip. When you "Split Audio" that, in essence, mutes the video track and places a copy of the video clip's audio into the Voice/Music track.

As I state earlier, you can right click on a video clip and choose to mute the audio. But I guess in Corel's thinking, if you went to the trouble of splitting audio or putting audio into one of the audio tracks then, logically, you wouldn't want to mute it. But, in any case, you can by decreasing the clip's volume to "0".
