I'm developing a project that is made up of clips taken from several other projects. Right now I go to one of the source projects view and find the clips I want, write them down and their location and so forth through all the souce projects. Then I go and try to build my new project using this info. As the project grows this starts to get confussing. If two projects could be opened at once it would help but that can't be done.
I'm sure some of yawl have some tricks that make this easier. If so, I would appreciate you sharing them here.
Copying/pasting clips between projects

Re: Copying/pasting clips between projects
When I want to do use clips from other projects I simply make a new Video library with the new project name - then open one of your previous projects in the time line - drag and drop the clip you want from the timeline up into your new library where a new thumbnail will be created - your previous project will remain unchanged but you will now have a copy thumbnail in your new project library. Do this as often as you want from as many previous projects as you want clips from. Now start your new project and simply drag thumbnails from the new library down into the timeline in the order your want them.
no need to make notes or anything - VideoStudio knows where every thing is.

Re: Copying/pasting clips between projects
What version of VS are you using? When talking about the Libraries/Organizer it really makes no difference in the later versions. The libraries are not specific to a project. So creating a libraries (video, photos, audio, titles) and importing all the clips you will use into a specific library will make them available for all your projects. There is one extra library with VS X3, the Project Video Library. This is for VSP, or project files, which is real handy for those that like "nesting", or using project files as video clips.
Remember this is non-destructive, so once you're finished you can simply delete the library, your source clips will not be affected.

Re: Copying/pasting clips between projects
Thanks guys, that was helpful. I have started making use of the library as suggested. I have a few questions about libraries.
How are libraries managed... meaning for this project I am working on now I am creating a pretty large library. Well when I move to another project I obviously dont want all these clips in my new project library but I dont want to loose them either. What do I do with them, I see there is a library export option... is that the same as "Save?"
One other question, Can I somehow open a VSX3 project in DVD MovieFactory 7 ?

Re: Copying/pasting clips between projects
You seem to have a slight misconception about the Library. First, they don't actually contain any clips -- only a thumbnail. The video itself remains wherever it is stored on the computer. The library is only a virtual link to where the videos are stored and a way to keep them together, but again only virtually. So a library might contain a large number of thumbnails but not actually take up much space as such on your computer. As you have probably found, they are managed by Settings > Library Manager.
AS for your second question, no, it is not possible to open an X3 project file in either MF 7 Pro or MF 7 SE. MF 7 was produced well before X3 code was ever written. I am not sure what might happen if you saved a project edited in X3, but in X2 format. MF 7 should be able to open that, though I have never tried it. You would also lose any edits in the project done with elements only introduced in X3 e.g. the PnP filter...

Re: Copying/pasting clips between projects
How specifically is this done. When I tried to drag a clip to my new project video window, the video window reverts to show my whole video library.BrianCee wrote:then open one of your previous projects in the time line .
Is there a tutorial ?

Re: Copying/pasting clips between projects
There seems to be two questions there :-
1) to open a previous project in the time line - click on 'File >> Open Project' - browse to the required .vsp file - click 'Open' - project appears in timeline ..
2) to insert a clip from a library into your project - drag the thumbnail from the library down into the timeline into the required position - NOT the preview window - that only plays the clip and assumes you want to play more clips

Library Import – Export
There is an option from Library Manager to Export the library.
This creates a copy of the library, save it to your pc hard drive.
I use this option, but maybe in a strange way.
I don’t use any of the sample clips within the library, in fact they get in the way.
I can delete them, clearing the video, image and audio library pages.
Now I export the library calling it My Blank Library.
After working on my project I may wish to start with a new clean library, I simply import My Blank Library.
A separate library for each project……..
I can fill the library with all clips associated with say “project one”.
I can export this library calling it “My project one library”
I could repeat this with other projects, exporting additional libraries for each.
Libraries being saved to the projects working folder.
It could work providing its managed correctly otherwise it could get very confusing.
