File open / save causes PSPP x3 to hang
I've just instaled PSPP x3 on a new computer (i5-2500k / 8GB / Intel mainboard / ATi HD5450 with 512MB / Win 7 Pro - 64-bit), followed by the 4 patches.
When I start PSPP everything appears OK. I dragged an image into the program and worked on it.
When I came to save it (using the floppy disk icon or File / Save) PSPP immediately went into the 'Not Responding' state. When I restarted it, the same thing happens, but also with file open icon and File / Open as well. Editing functionality seems unimpaired.
I followed the 'complete uninstall' process; CDS 2010 Clean-Up ver1.8.exe, folder cleanup and registry cleanup. I turned off User Account Control, rebooted, disabled my anti-virus, and then reinstalled. Exactly the same as before.
I am an IT support person, so usually I know what I'm doing(!?), but this has got me completely stumped.

Re: File open / save causes PSPP x3 to hang
I too am an IT person and I too have (had) exactly the same issue since setting up my new Windows 7 64-bit PC.
The answer lies with Scripts
Firstly, if you try to run Scripts as follows, I expect you will get the same result:-
If I use <Select Script> in the Script Pallete, the Program crashes.
If I use 'Customize' and choose 'Script' the Program crashes.
However, if I choose File \ Script \ Run, I can open a Script.
If I put the same Script into the Corel Scripts folder, it works.
Secondly, if you use the Script Toolbar X3 crashes.
What I have discovered is that this problem occurs whenever I put ANY SCRIPT into Scripts-Restricted or Scripts-Trusted.
This also causes the Open File and Save File issues as you describe.
[apolgies if this is a little cryptic - I have cut and pasted from my emails to Corel]

Re: File open / save causes PSPP x3 to hang
I tried the things you suggested.. I get everything a little different from you!
File / script / run crashes
Script toolbar works OK
my personal scripts folders are empty
It's almost like the prgram doesn't like the file open / save dialog boxes!

Please can you check for me that there are no folders defined in Menu File \ Preferences \ File Locations
under Scripts-Restricted and Scripts-Trusted, other than those from Corel (Program Files(x86) etc.)
and the two default My PSP Files Scripts-Restricted and Scripts-Trusted which for me MUST be empty.
These two are on my D: (Documents) Drive and if you delete them, they are reinstated by X3.

Re: File open / save causes PSPP x3 to hang
Sackmanj, try going to File > Preferences > General Program Preferences
Click Organizer
Click File Format Exclusions and exclude any format that you don't want the organizer to index your hard drive and find. Click OK
Click Uncataloged Folders and include any folders that aren't already included that you don't want X3 to index on your drive. Click OK
If you don't care for X3 to Auto-Preserve for you then click on that and uncheck the box. I ALWAYS work from a copy so Auto-Preserve just waste's disk space for me.
If you want the Organizer to find all this stuff then I'd suggest unchecking "Allow cataloging to complete after closing the program", then restart the program and let it run idle for a while and find all your stuff.
This is all just a suggestion and may not have anything to do with your problem but I'm thinking it's related.

Re: File open / save causes PSPP x3 to hang
Yes, I can confirm that! Just the two in My PSP files (also empty!) and the Program Files folder.
After a little more digging it turns out that it is just the Windows dialog boxes. so if I just save an image as the same name it saves OK.
My work involves getting and manipulating jpegs, so I immediately save in pspimage to work with.
I always save a fresh copy of the image I'm working on, so my original post should have read File / Save As and Floppy with the arrow icon.
That may have a effect on what we were looking into.

Me too.sackmanj wrote: I always save a fresh copy of the image I'm working on, so my original post should have read File / Save As and Floppy with the arrow icon.

I either read JPEGs or TIFFs from DPP Raw conversion and I alwasy do a Save As [F12].
It's obviously in the same area that your bug is occuring as mine, but I resolved by eliminating the Scripts.
I put (copies) of any of my Scripts (Scripts-Restricted and Scripts-Trusted) in the default Corel Program Files folders.
Sorry, I can't help any further but I am glad to say I have stepped around the issue after extensive correspondence with Corel Support. They promised to forward the issues to R&D last July

Re: File open / save causes PSPP x3 to hang
Hello sackmanj,
Aside from the RAM hard drive, we have the same specs on the computer. Anyhow, you may want to try and reset your work space. Just press and hold down on the SHIFT key while you double click on the PSP X3 icon and when the message appears to reset the work space, just click on OK, the message will be similar to the screen below.

Re: File open / save causes PSPP x3 to hang
Aaarrgghh!
So, in summary...
I've reinstalled, yet again, having cleared / deleted everything out.
I've deleted my Scripts folders - I have no scripts anyway and it is a fresh install of Windows 7! The only other programs installed (so far) are Office 2010, iTunes and Skype.
I've used the Shift key on startup.
Unlike Tadjio's previous post (I've only just found it!), PSPP doesn't get as far as presenting me with the dialog box. Selecting File / Open or clicking the Folder icon hangs PSPP immediately. Ditto for File / Save As..
Finally.. had a look at the Application event log and it came up with this:
Log Name: Application
Source: Application Error
Date: 19/01/2011 16:53:52
Event ID: 1000
Task Category: (100)
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: BRC8
Description:
Faulting application name: Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo.exe, version: 13.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4b3b2b3d
Faulting module name: igVECT15d.dll_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x46412077
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x07119160
Faulting process id: 0xd54
Faulting application start time: 0x01cbb7f96d797847
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel PaintShop Photo Pro\X3\PSPClassic\Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo.exe
Faulting module path: igVECT15d.dll
Report Id: b186f323-23ec-11e0-ae6c-7071bcdd379a
But it does not generate an error every time! Also the faulting module is also seen as "igCADd.dll_unloaded"
I think a call to Corel is on the cards.. does this count as an installation problem (as they are free!)?

Re: File open / save causes PSPP x3 to hang
I decided to reproduce this error and check the Event Log as Jon did.
I placed a single Script in My PSPFiles Scripts-Restricted and started X3.
I then did File Open and clicked on an image to load.
Immediately X3 crashed with the attached Windows Error screen. I then checked the Windows Event Log and found the following Windows 64-bit ntdll.dll error. Inocencio Samson of Corel Customer Support told me on 28th July 2010:
"Please be advised that I will forward this to the Resource and Development team within Corel for further investigation".
If I have no Scripts present in Scripts-Restricted or in Scripts-Trusted, the problem does not occur

I think you concern the Intel site and study all detail of features and specifications.
If you are IT support person than you can solve it itself.
thanks
