Capturing Software for the Plextor ConvertX PX-TV402U

Post by awbarnett »

For those that use the Plextor ConvertX PX-TV402U capturing device!
As you know, the "capture" feature in all versions of VideoStudio above "version 8" will not function with the Plextor ConvertX PX-TV402U.

If you want a good program to use with your Plextor ConvertX PX-TV402U capturing device . . . . this is it.

DownLoad the "PleXTools Professional XL Version:3.16" capturing software for use with the ConvertX PX-TV402U capturing device from
http://www.plextor-digital.com/index.ph ... .download/

Version:3.16 is the latest version that I am aware of.

The PleXTools Professional XL program is only on Plextor's "Europe" site (the link above).

Thanks for your information, which will be welcome to owners of such devices. I might just make the point that it is probably not Ulead or Corel's fault that Video Studio could not capture from such USB devices as the Plextor. Plextor, like many other device manufacturers, kept a lot of their proprietary secrets to themselves and would not share them with manufacturers of software. When they supplied third party software, it was usually tweaked by the device manufacturer to work with the device.

But we have always recommended using software provided by the device manufacturer to capture, and then open the captured files for editing in VS. In this case, that would be the software you indicate is now available.

BTW, did Plextor ever provide Vista (and Win 7) drivers for that device? I understood that they had refused to do so when Vista was first released and that the ConvertX line was subsequently dropped altogether.

Ironically, Plextor used to supply InterVideo software to work with the device. InterVideo, of course, took over Ulead several years ago, before it too was swallowed up by Corel!

Hello Ken!

I could be wrong about "All Versions of VS above 8". However, I currently use VS Pro X2 and I have never been able to get the "Capture" function to work with my Plextor ConvertX PX-TV402U, so I use the PlexTOOLS software all of the time. I jumped from version 8 to VS Pro X2.

The purpose of my post was simply to inform others about the PlexTOOLS software. As you may know, Plextor is no longer supporting the ConvertX PX-TV402U and have even taken the PlexTOOLS software off of the US Site. AS mentioned before, it's only available now on the Europe Site.

Thanks for the clarification. What about the Vista/Win 7 driver issue I mentioned? You don't give any information about your computer or OS, so I can't tell if you are still using XP.

Sorry about the lack of info.

Windows XP Pro - SP3. . . . .so I'm not certain if the PlexTOOLs program will work on Vista or 7.

As I recall, Plextor stopped supporting their device/software prior to Vista.

That's right -- though there was quite a fuss at the time with users who thought that nevertheless Plextor had an obligation to update the drivers for later OS. Plextor, IIRC, maintained its position at the time that it only ever advertised the device to work with XP. But there I too lost track of things...
