Problem importing avi files

Post by egdavis »

I recently purchased Video Studio Express 2010 and cannot import avi files that were created using a Flip. I have tried importing them from both my hard drive and a flash drive. VSE does not recognize the avi files on either drive. I have been able to import mpg files without any problems. Any idea as to what the problem is?

Thanks for your help,
Ed

Have you installed the software that comes with the cam? This should supply the codecs needed. If this hasn't helped then it is best to convert the files to something like wmv.

Please make sure that the latest QuickTime player is installed on your computer:

QuickTime Player

Then, from your camcorder, transfer the video to your computer and right-click on the transferred video clip then select RENAME.

Change the .mp4 to .mov (for example: video.mp4 would become video.mov).

Once the video clip is renamed, please import the video.mov to VideoStudio.

If you can't see the file extension of your video, please open your Windows Explorer and on the menu bar, select

TOOLS ---> FOLDER OPTIONS. Proceed to the VIEW tab and uncheck the HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES.

Click on APPLY and OK.

Abiel -- I noted that SP3 was supposed to improve performance with, amongst others, .mov files. But does that mean you can actually use the latest version of Quicktime? In the very recent past, we have been advising people NOT to install the latest version, and if they have, to regress it to the version that actually comes with VS, which is a few versions older...

Yes, Ken as of this time I have not received any info that you should use an old version of QT, but incase you experience the old problem with the latest version, just notify me and I'll be more than happy to wake the dev guys down stairs.. :)

Thanks everyone for all the tips. I probably will not get a chance to try them until this weekend. I will let you know the results.

Thanks again,
Ed
