VS X3 rendering - 720P MP4?

Post by hanlen »

Can anyone help? I have downloaded VS X3 for a 30 day trial. I seem to be unable to save the video file from my Sony camera in the same format which is 720P 25fps MP4. X3 only seems to offer low resolution MP4 formats (eg iPOD, Zune), but for 720P the only option seems to be MPEG2 (.MPG) which renders the file several time larger than the source file (what a waste). Have I missed something? I have Video Studio 9, 10, 11 and X2 but my days of Corel/Ulead may be over if this format is not an option.

Hi

When I go Share Create Video File – Mpeg4 the top option is Mpeg4 HD
Some video files give the option “Same as First Video” which can be useful.

If I choose Share Create Video File – Custom – I can create a template to:-

MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 25 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 5000 Kbps
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps

There is also the Make Movie Templates Manager where you can create your own template as above

In fact, with 720p video, I think it is the latter one that Trevor mentioned that will allow the creation of a new template with the same properties as your original. You go into Make Movie Template Manager and then choose Add and follow the prompts...

Thanks to everyone who helped me. What I needed to do in setting the save options options was to select "save as type" as .MP4 first which then opened up the options you described. For me, a 7000kbs rate closely matched the original file size though that may well differ based on the content. I also found the Make Movies Templates Manager useful for keeping and labelling these settings.

By the way the "Same as first video clip" option is not available for this type of file but no matter now. In past times I've occasionally found that this option changes the aspect ratio.

Next I'll be looking at the DVD Menu options which, for what I wanted, I could only use VS9 menus but VS9 doesn't handle Dolby Digital Audio and with X3, Corel has now dropped MP2 audio as a save option for MPEG-2 video.

Thanks and regards
Hans

Hi Hans

As far as I know VS 9 was the first to support Digital Dolby. (Other than VS 8 which needed a plug-in)
If you are using VS 9SE then maybe not.

However If you create a DVD Mpeg2 file, with Digital Dolby using X3 you should be able to burn this file using VS9.
Provided the video is compliant (which it is) then it will not be re-coded/rendered during the burn process.
You should get a DVD containing Digital Dolby.
At least that’s how I understand it, worth a try.

As a test creating a DVD Folder (Video_TS folder) will save you a disc.
Then view the files properties to see if DD has been burned.
