Installed VideoStudio for compatibility with Windows 7. Used mainly for editing out commercials fron television programmes recorded onto DVD. Both single use and re-recordable discs used.
Everything worked well though the program is top-heavy for my requirement.
Automatic suggestion last week that I install an update. The update failed and the problems started. I can no longer import from DVD. The process appears to run up to 60% then stops. The program then stops responding and has to be closed using task manager. The DVD can only be ejected by re-starting the computer.
Tried removing VideoStudio using the clean-up tool and following the regedit instructions. Re-installed but no improvement.
Suggested workround by Corel is to copy the vob file from the DVD to the desktop, rename this file as a mpg then import into VideoStudio. This does not work.
So at the moment I have un-useable software.
Can anybody out there help???
Unable to copy from DVD

Re: Unable to copy from DVD
As a work-around, try VOB2MPG (FREE!!!).
Are you sure this was caused by the update? Maybe you just have a bad disc? Have you tried an older disc that worked before? (A disc can play OK and still give you trouble when you try to rip/copy it... It can have small errors or slight corruption that the player or player-software skips-over.)

Re: Unable to copy from DVD
Thanks for reply.
Working with 4 discs at the moment and all have same problem. All can be read in explorer and will play on a DVD player or Windows Media Player.
Will download the software you suggest but having bought VideoStudio and until recently had no problems, should not have to use 3rd party software to get it to work.

Re: Unable to copy from DVD
Hi
When you re-installed did you perform a clean install.
Some files are left on the pc after uninstalling.
Removing these is part of Clean Install.
Unfortunately these files may be shared with other Corel programs.
If you only have X3 then there is no problem/conflicts.
There is a folder C:/Program Files/Common/ Ulead Systems
At least that’s the location for XP
Uninstall X3 as Corel Answer ID 764392 Then look for the Ulead Systems folder, rename it to "Ulead Systems copy".
Re-install X3 will recreate this folder.
Personally I would uninstall all Corel/Ulead products, then purge the pc of any remaining corel program files.

Re: Unable to copy from DVD
Think you have hit the nail on the head. The program was working before the abortive update!!
There is still a copy of Ulead Movie Factory 6 on the machine. This too was working up to a point but was not compatible with Windows 7. Again this will no longer import from DVD.
Think your opinion that all files to do with Corel/Ulead should be removed is the right way to go.
What I did not mention before was that after the failed attempt, real time scanning on McAfee was disabled and Spyware Doctor had to be re-installed. I had a similar problem some time ago when installing Magix RYVD, all security software had to be disabled (not something I like to do!!) before the program would fully install.
Will read your advice carefully again and have a go over the weekend and post a report.

Re: Unable to copy from DVD
Wow
I cannot believe that Corel would interfere with McAfee or cause SpywareDoctor to be re-installed. Very strange. (don’t know Spyware Doctor)
I would give your pc a good scan, I assume you will have Windows Defender installed. I use Avast as my anti-virus software.
Never had my virus software compromised when installing programs.
The only time I had problems was when I inadvertently click an a link, installed a virus that closed Mcaffee.
Installing X3 does however install a PSI Service (Protexis Licensing)
Not sure what it does, I think some Corel software just wont work without it.
But X3 seems to run ok with PSI disabled.
DVD Movie Factory 7SE is provided free for X3 users, this allows you to burn DVD’s.

Re: Unable to copy from DVD
Carried out another re-install and as you suggested cleared out all folders (and files) relating to Corel or Ulead.
Attempted to install patch 3 and ran into serious problems. Security software disabled, shortcut removed etc and update aborted.
Used system restore to put VideoStudio back to "out of the box" state and there it will stay!! Downloaded Movie Factory for simple editing.
During test also found that my Panasonic DMR-EZ25EB recorder will only allow finalising of discs if I use DVD-RW . If DVD+ is used there is no finalising.
Also if the recorder is connected to the TV using an HDMI cable, finalising is not offered automatically on ejecting the disc, it has to be done manually.
Thanks for your help
