Edit/Clip/Save trimmed video - hangs
Was able to trim and save 11 clips in new video files over 2-3 sessions, but then program hung after initiating 12th save. No duplicate file names, ie file already exsists. Computer show 100% CPU usage implying program has gone into loop. Have to use Window task mgr to end VideoStudio. When restarted VS indicates it is completing save started in previous session but creates empty file. Removing all Ulead files and folders I can find from computer left after uninstall, and all references I can find from registry, then reinstalling VideoStudio does not fix problem. I did not remove the video files in my user directory. There are no project files. Assume something remains on computer preventing clean reinstall and removal of bug. Any suggestions? Any idea what's happening? Thanks.

Re: Edit/Clip/Save trimmed video - hangs
Welcome to the forums,
I would first suspect something in the 12th clip might be causing the problem. Are all the clips the same type, MPEG, DV, ? Could you post the video clip properties? Right-click on them, each if they are different, select Properties and post them back here. We don't know if you're dealing with Hi-Def, or Standard-Def, and how you're going about saving. Are you saving as in File>Save, or Share>Create Video File?

Re: Edit/Clip/Save trimmed video - hangs
Thanks.
All in use video file properties are MPEG-2, 24 bits, 352x240, 29.97 fps, max 2430 bps.
Source file is 515MB, saved clips various sizes, eg 9MB, 47MB, ...
Source file successfully captured from camera. Second file to be so captured. First file posted to Internet no problem.
Last saved clip, #11 "unreadable" in VideoStudio and will not play in MS Media Player, just displays still image.
First 10 clips from same source will play in Video Studio and Media Playerno problem.
Attempt to select and save clip #12 before and after "clean" reinstall failed, and before and after deleting bad saved clip #11 failed. Video Studio hangs after starting save, "not responding". Terminate with OS task mgr.
Clips are marked (F3,F4) in preview window and saved by clicking on menu bar Clip/Save Trimmed Video.
Source file should not be altered. Should be good.
Always saving different clip. Independent.
Assume corrupted Video Studio control data in a file somewhere. Assume need to delete and reinstall clean copy.
Suggest how, or other line of inquiry to pursue?

Hi
The video files frame size at 352 x 240 is very very small.
It is small for internet use let alone for creating a DVD.
1 / We need a lot more info regarding your camera and what you intend to make?
2 / What camera do you have.?
3 / How did you connect the camera to the pc.?
4 / Are you intending to create a DVD or a file for the internet?

You may be able to "repair" clip 12 by by re-encoding it with 3rd-party software. I generally use SUPER (FREE!!!) to convert or re-encode "problem files". Set SUPER to create an MPEG-2 file with the same audio & video properties as the original (or with a sligtly higher bitrate) to minimize the quality loss you can get with re-encoding.
P.S.
If 2 out of 12 clips are turning-out "flaky", you might consider getting a different camera (or more "tolerant" software.

Re: Edit/Clip/Save trimmed video - hangs
thanks again for all the help.
From the replies I assume this is an unknown problem.
I've come up with the following debugging strategy.
1. The problem might be in the user files. I will reinstall Ulead and capture a new video clip and try cutting smaller videos from it as before. If it works the problem would be in the previous project user files. If not the problem would be in the Ulead system files.
2. If #1 does not fix the problem I will try to determine which of the Ulead files contains the problem. I will reinstall Ulead and wait one day. Then I will try to cut and save a smaller clip from the test source clip. The program will hang up. I will use the "date last modified" feature of the OS to see which files were changed on the second day's aborted run. That might isolate the problem file. I don't know how to isolate the problem if Ulead updates the system registry when it runs.
This may take some time but I will reply describing the results.
As for the other requested info: The camera is a Canon ES200 (circa 1996) which uses 8mm analogue videotape cassette . The playback image (NTSC) is converted to digital with an EasyCAP inline A/D convertor which plugs into a USB 2.0 port on the computer. I turn off the audio capture in Ulead to reduce the workload on the computer. That produces better quality video. I've created DVD video with Ulead and posted on Facebook (FB does some kind of conversion). I've played around with different capture file formats with Ulead to compare file sizes and video quality. The standard Ulead NTSC-DVD 352x240 capture without audio seems to be best. When cutting smaller videos from the captured video file using Ulead I work in one directory on the computer and make a copy of the original video and each clipped video to a separate directory so they don't accidentally corrupted or deleted.

Re: Edit/Clip/Save trimmed video - hangs
As far as I can see, you have never told us what version of VS you are using, but from your mention of EasyCap, I suspect it may be VS 10 SE. In any case, the very mention of an EasyCap device is starting to send shivers down my spine. In recent weeks we have had a flood of complaints from users with these devices about a variety of problems. It seems that the EasyCap device -- spelt that way -- is a cheap knock-off of a more reputable device called EZCap, which does not come bundled with VS at all, but another software brand (from memory, ArcSoft)... As I say, a variety of users with the fake device have had a variety of problems, and I am afraid yours may be just another of them. If it is indeed such a device, then our esteemed colleague Trevor Andrews, who was also caught by the fake device, advises throwing it away and buying the real device or something.

Re: Edit/Clip/Save trimmed video - hangs
By choosing different start and end points for the clip "Save trimmed video" works. Sometimes it is slow but again move the start and end points slightly and it saves the clip faster. I just have to play with the start and end points until I find a pair which will not make the program hang. I can then use "Save trimmed video" on the trimmed video to get the frames I want. I don't know if that's due to the way the device encodes the captured file, to the speed and memory of the computer, to the Video Studio SE 10 "Save trimmed video" software, or to me selecting bad options in the program. However, I'm now able to continue selecting good footage from the video and am looking forward to pasting it all together and adding titles.

Hi
If you wish to create a DVD then you should use Easycap to capture to that format.
Using VS 10 there is an option to select the capture format -- choose DVD, this will create a larger but compliant Mpeg2 video file.
As Ken mentioned there have been a lot of fake devices on the internet. So much so that a forum announcement has been provided.
If you are one of the unfortunate ones then you will probably experience problems.
