Voice Recording

Post by Stix99 »

I'm trying to do a half decent voice over in VS12 but its just so bland (or perhaps I've just got an ordinary voice). Using the mic thru the computer input to record on the soundtrack works but I have an audio box that will hook a good condenser mic up to the usb port. Trouble is VS12 doesnt seem to like it. I've changed the sound attributes in Windows to recognise the audio box but VS12 gives the message "Device Error, Cannot open the wave in device," Any thoughts??

Frankly, I gave up using VS's internal audio recording a long, long time ago -- ab out VS 8. There are so many programs out there which can do a very much better job doing your voiceovers, and then allowing you to edit them. I personally use either Nero's Wave Editor or else the freeware Audacity. With both, you can record in various formats (I tend to use rock standard .wav), and you can increase or decrease volume, add filters, trim etc. Then when you have it sounding the way you want, you save it in final form then simpy insert it in the VS timeline where you want it. And don't get hung up about not being able to use VS for every single step. There are a lot of us out here who use a huge variety of other programs alongside VS to produce a useable video...
