VideoStudio Pro X2 - Problem and lack of customer service

Post by Random Number »

Hi - I'll try to give a short version of the story.

I purchased and registered a Corel Video Studio X2 some time back. Later when I was doing some editing I discovered a problem in that the Preview window shows individual clips correctly, but the window will not play "Projects" properly and goes dark. It is possible to render a final video file, but it is impossible to use properly for normal editing. Further, when I have tried installing the VSX2PROPATCH patch from the Corel website I get the error message "Installer can not find VideoStudio 12 on your machine".

I engaged in correspondence with Corel support and was given the standard run-around to update drivers, reinstall the software etc. all of which I had done anyway. None of this worked and I suppose I temporarily gave up (I didn’t know about this board). I recently needed to do some more video editing and found that despite another round of updates the problems still exist. Contact Corel support again on 28 December but have still not had a reply. I have the distinct impression that their "support" doesn't go beyond telling you to update Windows and reinstall their software.

The interesting thing is that I have downloaded the trial version of Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 and this works fine on my computer and there are no apparent problems with previewing projects as I edit. This appears to confirm that the issue is with VideoStudio Pro X2 and not my PC.

So far the money I spent on X2 seems to have been wasted and I don't want to spend more on X3 just because X2 doesn't work properly. Can anyone assist either with how I get X2 working or get someone at Corel to provide some customer service please?

Welcome to the forums, :)

Well first I'll let you know that we all would like to be able to tell Corel a thing or two, one is improve their support. Believe it or not, there have been some posts where people praised their experience with them, and I would guess you're not going to be a member of that group... ;) With that said we will try to get your VS X2 working for you. In order to that we're going to need more information to work with, so go the sticky post, Please Read this First.... found at the top of this forum. It will provide you with a guide as to what sort of information is needed. We do applaud you for having your system specs completed in your profile, that certainly helps too. :)

(I didn’t know about this board)
That's funny, besides recommending patches and a reinstall their other usual answer is to "ask the forum for help".

Hi

When you re-installed X2, did you perform a clean re-install :?: :?:

When we un-install Video Studio, some common and shared files are left on your pc.
Manually deleting these files is part of the Clean Install.
