Compatibility Of Images Between Versions

Post by nina »

I recently upgraded from PSP 7 to Paint Shop X3 Ultimate, with nothing in between.... whew what a change! lol If not for LeviFiction's tutorials I found on You Tube I would still be stumbling around in the dark! Thank You Levi!!
I have a new computer 64 bit running Windows 7..... No problems with installing X3 or PSP 7 and running both of the programs. Had a bit of a problem with my plugins but after adding the 7 dll files to system 32/system/ and Corel plugin folders they all work perfectly!
Anyway...I do not like the text editor in X3, plain and simple!! I like my old one in PSP 7, so I figured I would just do my text in 7 and be happy.... wrong! The images I make and save in X3 do not show up in PSP 7. I can view images made in PSP 7 in X3 and work with them, but not the other way around. Is there a way to make my images, and tubes made in X3 work in PSP7, as well as X3 ? I hope I made sense!
Thank You,
Have A Wonderful Day/Evening, Nina

For doing text "the old way" in X3, select the text tool and then hold down the shift key when clicking on the image. The text entry box will appear.

To save PSPimage files in backward-compatible format for PSP 7, in the Save As dialog, click the Options button and then choose "PSP 7 compatible file" from the dropdown.

Just beat out on getting the answer in first. XD

Honestly I was one of the people asking for on image text editing. The only problem with the current method is that even with the text box the same problem of not being able to adjust the values without the text being given focus again is annoying. In this way, and only this way, is the old version preferred.

As for the compatibility - Since 7 has a slightly different format, and also different options, it will be hard to open a file saved with X3.

So to make sure you can open the file in 7 you need to save it for compatibility with 7. It's pretty simple, When you hit Save/Save As and the dialog pops up you'll see an options button in the bottom right corner of the dialog. Click that and you'll see a drop down box for compatibility. Just select compatibility with Paint Shop Pro 7 from there and you should be good to go.

Thank You All Very Much For Your Help.... I did as you suggested with the options box... the first time I did it a screen popped up about compression. Not sure what I did wrong, or if it had something to do with the image itself. But on the second try with another graphic it worked perfectly and I was able to view it in both versions! : )

Now I have another question... I stated that all my plugins were working just fine, and I thought they were! lol But yesterday I got an update from Corel. Now my Ulead and Unplugged plugins don't want to work. On some of the Ulead I get ... Unable to load..... particle.dll. another I get unable to load APSmgart.dll. and others I get... Unable to apply this filter. Please select a region in the image and try again. When I did this I got this error.... Unable to load Type_eff.dll.

With the Unplugged I get ... Unable to load requested plug-in filter. The plug-in may not be installed properly or may be missing files. (Plugin;Solarize.8bf) Each one gives me that with the different effects at the end of each error message.
Are these some of the filters that the updates cause to stop working, or could this be another another problem?
Thank You For Your Help
