Video is cut in half

Several users have been unsure where to post issues relating to the copy of MovieFactory 7 SE now supplied with VideoStudio X3. To make life easier you can post problems here.

Video is cut in half

Post by wpatters1229 »

Just figured out that normalizing the audio in a project is a big no no since it kills the video but now I am finding that the two video files I put into the project are cut in half...everything burns to the disc just fine but now there is only half of the original video length.

Anyone got any ideas on this new bug. The video files are AVHCD and about 6 to 7 gig each so they will be going onto two DL DVDs. I notice when I brought them over to the timeline they got have the size...I just thought that was some sort of compression but now it turns out it is actually cutting them in half.

Weird

May have found the problem...I choose the Disc icon when importing media instead of a video file. It let me go get a video file but for some reason converts it in the process. When I get a "Video File" which was the one I had edited in X3 it placed it and did not reduce the file size. I am now burning what should be a good DVD after all of this....there should be a warning on the Disc icon that it will do a conversion...from what to what is anyones guess.

Did you find the answer to this problem. I just created a project for my mother in law's funeral and it only recorded 1/2 of the video's length for each video. Viewing is in 5 hours...:(

Thanks!

Can you confirm you are using the cut down SE version of Movie Factory 7? And can you tell us what Project Properties you used and a bit more detail about "... it only recorded 1/2 of the video's length for each video". How many videos were there and what format do they have?

Hi Ken. made both of the videos using Corel movie factory (i can't remember which version- its at home) - and tried to put both videos into a DVD format because that is all the funeral home had. For some reason, the program (SE version of Movie Factory 7) only imported 1/2 of the mpeg file. I was in a time crunch, but luckily I converted the files to mov and the program was able to import the whole video. It crashes ALL THE TIME... and took 3 painstaking tries to get the DVD burned, but we did make it in time for the viewing.

Any idea why mov. worked and mp4 would not?

The only thing I can think of is that Movie Factory, even the "latest" version 7, is now quite an old program. I bought the full version in August 2008!!! MPEG-4 was a fairly new format then, and has evolved dramatically over the following years. It is highly likely that MF simply can't handle the mp4 from recent equipment. Quicktime, on the other hand, is constantly updated (unlike MF), so converting the video to the Quicktime .mov format would change internal tags or whatever within the video, into something that MF could recognise... This is a simplistic explanation, I realise, but all I can think of for the moment...
