MOD file audio/video

Post by wstagner »

A friend of mine shot some video with his JVC everio on 1/8/11.
The native files PLAY fine in VS3 however any attempt to convert to any output video file or just output the audio track (which is what I really want to do) results in random audio "skips" like what happened when an LP had a scratch and a stylus couldn't play it.

I have VS SP2 installed along with the audio patch on the Corel site.

I've successfully exported the MOD files to other formats using a freeware program called Video Pad from nchsoftware.com, so I can only assume VS has a problem.

I thought before I downloaded that MOD file converter, that's been discussed here, I would ask.
Seems that a PAYware software like VS, shouldn't have this problem.

Prior to using MOD files, I used AVI files in VS and exporting to an audio file worked just peachy.

TIA

Hi Walt

I had a problem a while ago, think it was after installing the “new” patch (VSProX3_Patch3.exe) as opposed to VSProX3_Patch2.exe
Cannot confirm that this is the actual cause.
One poster described it as listening to a heart beat.

The problem also showed when using X2

I have recently re-installed VS without that patch and its working ok.
Suppose if I install the patch3 and it crops up again then that would sort of confirm it, or not?

I have a Canon FS300 that also records to MOD, however they are really just MPEG-2. Using the software that came with the camcorder to transfer the video to my PC, the extension is automatically changed to mpg. I can also manually transfer them, leaving the extension to MOD, and insert them to VS X3. So far I've not had any issues with them. Try renaming the video file extension from MOD to MPEG and see if that makes a difference.

I guess I should also ask if these are High-def videos? If so then you may need to do something different than what I described above.

thanx for the prompt responses....
these are standard def videos
i sure wish I could buy an SD/SD card camcorder that had manually adjustable mic level control, but alas HD is my only option

I can't wait to see what problems I'll encounter w/that.

I don't know how to rename the file extension part of the file.
Do I need to get to a DOS prompt to do that?

I figured out how to change the folder options to show known file extensions.
Renamed the file.
Makes no diff.
Next suggestion please.

Hi

If you cannot see the file extension you need to make them viewable.

This is for XP

Tools – Folder Options – View tab – un check-Hide extensions of known file types

I do not know how to find these details using Windows 7
You don’t give your PC details, edit your profile to include your pc specifications.

Changing the file extensions can have drastic effects on some files, take care when renaming files.

Reinstall X3

First revert Quicktime to an earlier version

Dunno what QT has to do w/it but I uninstalled it completely.

If it helps, I have the SAME problem I'm describing in X2!

I just installed a fresh copy of X2 in an XP virtual machine....it appears to work fine.
I'll do further testing this afternoon and report back here.

I'll then uninstall X3 and reinstall it and retry OR maybe I'll install it in an XP vm too.

Either way, I'll report back.

Hi

First of all I have completed my installation by installing X3 with all patches and the audio problem has returned.
I was going to mention that the audio problem also shows on X2, that was the first time I saw this problem, but this time X2 seems OK .
So I was assuming a Common file issue. During my initial install I saved the Common folder, after each patch, as backup, reverting the files to an older version does not cure this problem?

I am assuming we are seeing the same problem, shows when playing project in “project playback”, “clip” playback looks ok.
Audio view shows the volume levels pulsing, just like a heartbeat.

Fortunately I can also render the project which plays as ok.

My only option now is to reinstall X3.

Quicktime,
you need QT to play Mov files, the latest version of quicktime (auto updates) has caused some problems with video studio.
Reverting Quicktime to an earlier version has cured some issues.

edit

Mod or Mov

Apologies, I seem to be a little confused here.
My problem is associated with Mov files, that’s not to say that it wouldn’t be the same for Mod files.

The symptoms seem identical. I know I can cure the issue by re-installing.
Lets hope that works for you.

Uninstalled X3. Reinstalled.
Still fails.
VideoPad from http://www/nch.com works fine on the same files with nothing changed.

Hi....I'm back and still have the SAME problem with audio when I either extract an audio clip or create a video file from a standard def JVC everio cam. I've even used sectioncheifs SD copier with the same result.

You can see my previous posts of things I've tried and I don't know what else to try.

What I'd like to do is post one of my files on my FTP site for someone else to download/test and see if you get the same result.

But the original file is over 200mb, so this is unrealistic.
Instead I've posted the WMV file produced by X3 here:

http://wstagner.com/band/test/

Any comments/suggestions would be welcome/appreciated.

Thanks bunches.

Just as a reminder...the problem is if you listen to the audio in my clip, there are random "skips" in the music....just like what records did that had unplayable grooves.

I had a look/listen to your video. I'm hearing and seeing what I think is your skips. One such is occurring around 23.3 secs. By looking I mean the wav form, which was done using Audacity. One thing to try, is with your original clip in the time-line, go to share>Create Sound File, and render a wav file. Then use that in one of the audio tracks, and mute the audio for the video clip. See if that will allow you to render your project without that skipping.

I suggest the above, not knowing what audio compression (codec) is used with your source files. I'm guessing that it is Dolby or MP3, however might be LPCM or PCM.
