Can't Screen Capture
The on-line help instructions say: To capture screens from the Corel PaintShop Photo Pro workspace, start Corel PaintShop Photo Pro in a second application window, and use it to capture screens from the first.
While PSP was opened, I tried to open it again and it would not create a second application window. How do you do this? I'm trying to capture screens from the Corel PaintShop Photo Pro workspace.
Thanks

Re: Can't Screen Capture
No idea. Probably an error, but if there is a way and someone knows it I would be more than happy to hear about it.
Otherwise I suggest the method I told you before. It's a simple key combination to take a full screenshot and paste it to the clipboard. YOu can then create an image out of it. If you're wanting to do multiple screenshots and don't want to have to close the window each time you want a new screenshot I suggest an external program. Since that is what Corel is suggesting anyway (the second window would be like an external program) it makes sense. There are some good options for this. Including free opensource options.

If I recall correctly (IIRC), back with Jasc PSP 9, you were able to open more than one instance of the program. I think that is where that instruction originates, they as usual failed to update it. In fact as soon as one of my video files finishes transferring, I"ll test this, as I do have PSP 9 installed..
Edited
Just tried it, and it does allow for more than one instance of the program to be open. In fact to find out if it was limited to 2, I continued to open new instances, and finally stopped at 10. I still firmly believe that Corel can not even come close to what Jasc had with this program. I was using it when I stumbled across this web board (was Ulead's back then). I reluctantly purchased PhotoImpact to replace PSP9. I recall telling the late Heinz-oz, that PI would not be able to do what PSP 9 can do. Well I was slightly wrong, but the one thing that it could not do, was to have multiple instances open...
Here's another good one: http://www.techsmith.com/snagit/
Here's one that I use for all my screenshots... http://www.faststone.org/FSCaptureDetail.htm

Re: Can't Screen Capture
Continuing with your idea, I just tested this with several versions. PSP 8, 9, X, and XI allowed me to open two instances of each; X2 and X3 did not. This leads to another possible idea: If you have more than one version of PSP installed on the same computer, you could open one instance of each of two versions and copy and paste between them.Ron P. wrote:If I recall correctly (IIRC), back with Jasc PSP 9, you were able to open more than one instance of the program. ... Despite all of this, the easiest solution may be just to capture the screen using the Print Screen key, as per a previous suggestion. If you want to use a separate screen capture program, I have had good experience with FastStone Capture Portable, which is available as freeware.

Re: Can't Screen Capture
Hey Ron P. & wds937:
I used to run PI 8, which was under Ulead. The screen capture works fine. I now have PI X3, which is under Corel and are not able to run open windows of this application - Which is the same with PSP X3. In PSP X3, I noticed that their screen capture only allows you to capture screen shots outside of their open application.
I did not know that they no longer allow you to open windows of this application. I thought I was doing something wrong. Corel should correct their PSP on-line help where it says:
To capture screens from the Corel PaintShop Photo Pro workspace, start Corel PaintShop Photo Pro in a second application window, and use it to capture screens from the first.
Do a search for Screen Capture, which is what I read and here is the web site link: PaintShop Photo Pro X3 Help
Thanks

Thanks Simone, I hope they know about it (they really should by now), but thank you for trying and I hope you're successful.Simone Corel UK wrote:@princess111

It has been impossible to open a second instance of PSP since the release of PSP X2 over three years ago. Screen capture is an old, legacy part of PSP that, despite being much used, hasn't had a scrap of updating in the last 10 or 15 years.
Apart from the problems with trying to capture a screen print of PSP itself, it has never worked properly with Vista or Win 7, and never worked properly with 64 bit versions of Windows. All of these problems have been repeatedly reported to Corel and completely ignored.
The usual recommendation in this forum, the PSPUG forums or the Corel NNTP groups is to use something else... the Windows Snipping Tool or a dedicated screen capture utility like FastStone Capture, Snagit, Pic Pic Tools or Gadwin. I think most PSP users have assumed this is just another in the long line of tools that have been abandoned by Corel or had their functionality reduced to a level of simplistic or buggy uselessness. Finding better performance and features in freeware is sadly also a common experience for (ex) PSP users in recent years.

Re: Can't Screen Capture
Forgive me if I am joining this thread a lttle late and therefore missed a point but...
(I am using PSP X3 under Windows 7 64-bit).
The simplest way to capture a screen within PSP is to use the Windows "Prt Scr" button, followed by "Paste As New Image".
If you use it on its own, you capture the whole desktop.
If you use it with the Alt Key (Alt+PrtScr) you can capture an individual window, such as a tool 'dialogue'.
This has always been the case, including SPSP X2 and Windows Vista & XP 32 bit, as far as I can remember.

Re: Can't Screen Capture
Using the [Alt] key most likely will close any menu that you have open. I know it does for me. Also on my laptop, the [prt sc] key is assigned to a Function, so to use it I must use the combination of [Fn] (function key) + [prt sc]. There's no way to use the [Alt] key with this. I'm not sure how many laptops are setup this way, but I'm sure there's more than Compaq's. That's why I use a separate screen capture program, even with it, I have to reassign the keyboard commands, since they default to the print screen and Alt + print screen.

Re: Can't Screen Capture
@TimMorrison
That the Screen Capture doesn't always work on Vista/7 is caused by the Internet Explorer/OS. High security settings hinder PSP to take a screenshot. Give it a try. Reduce the security settings back to zero and you will see it works fine (as on our Win7 and my Vista machine at home).
Normally, I use the PrtSc key and after I open Paint. With Win7, the Snipping tool can be used so easily.
What I definitely are going to escalate is a second enhancement to take over the excellent PhotoImpact screen capture setting "whole page". It allows to take a screenshot from a webpage which is longer than the current screen. I liked this feature very much and need this quite often.

Screen Capture vs Monitor Resolution
Hello - I am new to the board.
I have just recently upgraded and could not figure out why my screen captures were cutting off the right and bottom of the areas captured (no matter the settings)...
After lots of trial and error, googling this problem with no helpful results - it turned out that my monitor resolution needed adjusting. I had a CUSTOM view of 130%... and it needed to be reduced to a maximum of 125% in order to capture the entire screen...
There was no reference to this in the manual, so please take note if it is cutting off your screen captures.
Thanks -
Marie
