Post by mickey2910 »

Hi all
New to this so sorry if I have posted in the wrong forum.
I have a Sony TRV255E camcorder that I have connected to my netbook via USB.
When I capture the video and play it back the picture jumps and so does the sound.

Please help I have been on this all week
many thanks
mickey

Hi Mickey

Welcome to the forums

We need a bit more info regarding your video, frame sizes type of compression, is it HD.
Right click a video file and select properties, what are they?

The problem may be associated with your PC, so can you fill in your PC’s specification in your profile. This will show to the right of your posts.

Please read this before postingexplains the type of details we need.

If its HD then make sure that Smart Proxy is enabled and that proxy files have been created.

Post Edited

I have googled your camera as a Digital 8 type.
Afaik it has a firewire terminal, (i-Link DV Out) you should use this to connect to your pc.

Capturing via USB is not recommended for video transfer.

At best, your camera's USB port will be the now very old USB 1.0 and simply not suitable for transferring anything except low quality streaming video or still photos. I too have a Sony Digital 8 in my collection, and believe me, the difference in quality of capture between USB and Firewire is chalk and cheese.

As Trevor has said, you simply have to use Firewire/i-Link, and if your computer does not have a Firewire port, then install a Firewire card. They are dirt cheap these days and easy to install in a spare slot on your motherboard. Most come with a Firewire cable too, but make sure you buy one which has a mini DV plug at one end for the camer and a bigger 6 pin plug at the computer end.
