I am having no luck trying to chop up a 13-hour, 26GB .mpg into smaller segments using Video Studio 11+. The error is telling me that the 'total duration is greater than the maximum project duration..." and will not allow me to edit. Is this a limitation of VS11+? How big a file can I edit without error> Can I increase/override the maximum duration of a project? Is there a workaround? All advice is welcome.
Thank you.

I don't think the file size or duration will cause that problem... There might be some corruption in the MPEG's timecodes.
Is this MPEG-2 or MPEG-4? What final output format do you want?
VideoReDo ($50 - $100 USD) and Womble ($100 USD) both include "MPEG repair" tools, and both offer free trials, so they might be worth a try.
An alternative is to re-encode the MPEG (although you might notice a loss of quality). You can try this with Video Studio by re-rendering at a slightly lower bitrate* than the existing file. (You'll want to use the same resolution & framerate, etc.) Or, if that doesn't work you can re-render with SUPER (FREE!!!).
* You can estimate bitrate with the following formula:
Bitrate = (140 x File Size in MB) / Playing time in minutes
If you re-render with the same exact bitrate, Video Studio might "Smart Render" and not actually re-encode the video. (I think SUPER will re-encode in any case.)
And, if you download SUPER, don't get fooled by the "AVS Video Converter" ads on their website... Follow the links and make sure you are really downloading SUPER.

Re: Edit Very Large .mpg
Thanks, DVDDoug.
To answer your question, the is an MPEG-2 created from an ATI tuner card outputting 640x480 resolution at 29.97fps VBR up to 8Mbps.
VS11+ will not allow me to drag the file onto the Edit screen film strip. I can't believe timecodes are an issue because WinDVD and Cyberlink PowerDVD can begin playing from any spot for any duration. (This assumes we both agree that timescodes are needed to do this. I'm not really sure...
)
Maybe VS12 will allow big files. Does Corel listen to these forums? Thanks again for pointers to those other products.
