Help with turning a picture into a drawing

Post by stallborregarden »

Some time ago I changed a coloured picture in to a black and white picture and then in to a drawing, now I can´t remember how I did it and I have spent several hours in PhotoImpact XL trying to find out how I did, but I can´t find it!

Please help me!!!! This is the picture I have done!

Hello stallborregarden,

If only you are using PaintShop Pro, then you can use this old tutorial that I made. :)

Abiel, he is asking about PhotoImpact, not PaintShop Pro.

Stallborregarden, there are quite a number of PI tutorials out there, especially when you look in the PIRC Forum which is mainly PI and PSP orientated.

Barefoot Graphics Simple Sketch Tutorial

How to Make a Sketch of a Photo in PhotoImpact

I'm sure these two tutorials will help, even though they are written for earlier versions of PI.

One possible starting point for a conversion such as this would be to lower the color count to 256 Colors (drawings tend to contain 256 or less colors, while photos can contain many thousands of colors). IIRC, the command is located in Format --> Data Type --> Optimized Indexed 256 Colors. If there's a dithering option in the conversion process, leave it turned OFF (dithering creates the illusion of more colors, and can create color patterns which would not occur in natural drawing0.
