Thai language support

Post by panzhuming »

Hi experts,

I'm using VideoStudio X3, and I'd like to insert some Thailand subtitles at start of each chapter (and perhaps apply some effects to those subtitles afterwards). However, when I insert Thai characters, all I see is bunch of question marks - ????????

The version I'm using is Simplified Chinese. The environment of my OS is Win 7 Ultimate x86 Simplified Chinese, with Thai Language Pack installed.

Wondering anyone knows how to solve this problem? With many thanks!!!

Hello panzhuming,

If the font have been installed properly and you can see it on the list of fonts on VideoStudio then you can definitely use it. To check if VideoStudio can detect the font, heres what you need to do.

Open VideoStudio then click on 2 EDIT then click on the TITLE icon, then select on any TITLE EFFECT click on the OPTION that is located on the lower right corner of the screen.

from there you will see the FONT Selection box to list all the detected fonts on VideoStudio X3. If the Thai font is listed there then you're good to go.

Make sure you click on the PREVIEW Screen to activate the FONT box.

This probably won't be of much use, but I suspect it may have something to do with the Keyboard layout you are using.... I suspect Video Studio may be set up to see foreign characters such as you are using only when your Windows keyboard selection is the U.S. layout. But of course, even if you can then insert the foreign characters, you will need to have a paper print-out of which charcters on the U.S. keyboard correspond with which foreign character...

The other alternative would be to make your titles and titles in a separate graphics/drawing program which can recognise those characters, then save them as, say, jpegs or .png or something similar, and then insert them as an image in one of the overlay tracks, adjusting the size and transparency as necessary.

Thanks for all your replies! Finally I was able to solve the problem, and here I'm listing the steps just in case someone else is looking for the answer.

1. Go to Control Panel -> Region and Language -> Keyboard and Language -> Change Keyboard -> Add
2. Add one of the Thai languages. I'm not sure what are the differences. The one I chose and worked is Kedmanee
3. When editing title in VideoStudio, click on Language Bar (from Windows, usually on right-bottom corner) to switch to Thai language
4. Insert Thai and then you will be able to see everything

One more thing to mention is that before Step #1, I actually have installed Thai Language Pack for Windows 7 x86. I'm not exactly sure whether this is required. But at least what I know is if you only install Thai Language Pack, you will only see "????" when you input Thai in VideoStudio.

Thanks again for help from everyone!
