Quick Review won't configure

Post by sinclairaj »

Just installed Paint Shop Pro X3 on Windows XP. All works except Quick Review in Organizer. Clicking on Play starts an install, original disk must be in a drive, near the end I get error 1402 Could not open Key etc. I retried with windows firewall off and antivirus blocked, no change. If I cancel the process after the erro the quick review starts and appears normal. The problem key is HKey_Local_Machine_software\classes\applications\\shell. Any ideas for a fix?

See http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... _id/758896.
It involves changing the permissions for a section of the registry so that everyone has full control.

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks for looking into the problem. I tried the fix suggested, no change. I found it strange that it tried to install something after clicking on Quick Review. So reinstalled the program, blocked virus scanning first just in case, now all OK. Problem fixed!

This fix has not worked for me either. Re-installing does fix the problem until Patch3 is applied which is when the issue first appeared.

I did try the suggested fix, even though I do not believe that it is an issue with permissions.
If you look at the "problem key" as reported by the original poster you will notice that it is invalid (contains 2 backslashes).
HKey_Local_Machine_software\classes\applications\\shell
Windows will never allow access to that key and will always error.

Are there any other ideas for a fix?

I agree. I had the same problem once the fix was applied. It should not even be looking to reinstall anything in the first place. Quick review worked fine before the fix was applied.

I will uninstall (second time) and reinstall and not apply the update until someone tells me its safe
