Did you do a search for EasyCap (or EZcap, Easy Cap, etc.)? It has been talked about a lot, especially since there seems to be some cheap knock-offs that don't work.

 Beware of cheap video capture devices!

What operating system do you have? Video Studio 8 is several years old and does not run on Windows Vista or Windows 7. And, it's very unlikely that the current version of Video Studio will work with your capture device.

The current "real" EzCAP has different capture software & drivers and does not come with Video Studio.

We'll stop you right there. Due to piracy, the company have changed their name from easycap to ezcap™. If you have just purchased a new easycap, You have bought a fake. You get what you pay for. Below is some of the most popular "easycap" questions we are asked.

I just bought an easycap and it came with ulead video. Why does it not come with Arcsoft software?
1. You have purchased an older, obsolete version. (but it will still say ezcap on the unit)
2. You have bought a fake.

I just bought an easycap and it came with ulead video 8.0. Why does it not work on Vista / Windows 7?
You have bought a fake.

I just bought an easycap. Why does it not work on XP 64 bit or Vista 64 bit?
You have bought a fake.

They all work on different codecs and chipsets. There is no point in buying a fake and downloading drivers from here hoping to resolve your problems. It won't happen. Save your money.

Hi Steve

Welcome to the forums.

First of all there have been some devices purchased on the internet, maybe E-Bay that appear to be fake. In fact I bought one, it was a good buy very cheap, or so I thought. Never did get it working.

Can you view this site and view their support page.Ezcap
Ok
Video Studio 8 is a very old version.
When you capture you have the option to choose a capture format.
Choose DVD, this will capture to Mpeg 2 which I believe Easy Cap would use.

Can you give further details regarding the problem you are having, any error messages etc.

Apart from the points raised by the members above can you please identify what the sound stream is from your VCR - is it Dolby - if I remember correctly version 8 would not play Dolby sound unless you purchased a Dolby plug-in which is no longer available.

From what I understand, the real EzCAP (see below) works fine.

Hello rochdalesteve,

If you are using Ulead Video Studio Ver 8 on your computer that uses Windows Vista, then that may very well be the problem, since Ulead Video Studio Ver 8 is not compatible with Windows Vista nor with Windows 7.

Also got the EasyCAP DC60 knock-off ... :?

After reading/writing posts here I decided to send the "wrong cable" back to the reseller (I'll get my money back from Amazon). I ordered at ezcap.tv (UK) now and already got the original cable!

Will use it under Vista Ultimate (32bit) and Windows 7 (64bit). Had no time to use/test it but will do it asap!
