Insert .VSP project details within another .VSP project ?

Post by brouillette »

Is it possible to insert a .VSP project timeline details within another project timeline ? My purpose is to be able to edit the various components of an existing timeline project (titles, transitions, some photos and videos deleted or inserted,...) while intergrating it within another .VSP project. I tried the "insert a VS project" feature but it is inserted as one video in the top video/photo timeline, preventing me from modifying any of its components ? :(

As you have discovered, you can insert a VSP into a project. But, the inserted VSP is treated like a single video clip and cannot be edited while it is "nested" in the project.

Hi,
I entirely support this missing requirement - and have added it to the discussion thread

Not sure I fully understand what you want to do - but would it help if you opened the previous .vsp within VideoStudio then dragged each of the components (titles, photos, videos etc.) that you want to re-use up into their appropriate libraries - where they would remain while you closed your old .vsp project and then opened your new one - then you could drag the items back down from the library into the timelne and edit them (or whatever you want to do).

Yes we could Brian but this is fine for small limited reshuffling, though painful and time consuming.

A few times I realize in making my large travel movies (more than an hour long) and by breaking it in multiple VSP projects converted in both DVD and AVCHD quality videos (.mpg) because I produce the 2 versions (one DVD, another AVCHD), that I would want to break differently my VSP's later on or insert them in another one to reshuffle them extensively.

I mean take large chunks of components and move them around while retaining the relative positioning of the photos+videos+titles+painting creator+transition+effects...etc of each chunk, and then make some more inserts here and there to create a new integrated VSP and then use the other chunks elsewhere.

VS as you know can not do this. What pyvo is referring to with MSP is called virtual time-lines. I'm sure there might be a consumer level editing program capable of something similar, not sure what it may be though. VS allows 1-project being used as a project, and then you can of course insert project files as video clips. VS has never been designed to do very complex editing, it is for simple editing. For the most part not many people are really using all overlay tracks, plus all the title tracks, and all the audio tracks at one time while editing.

It sounds like you need a program that is designed for professional editing, where there are numerous (99 to unlimited) tracks available, and possibly one that allows more than one instance of the program running, or what MSP allowed.
