Need to upgrade for the PSI key

Post by AussieTX »

I got a WIN7 warning stating I need to upgrade my PSI key as it is not running correctly.
I found the PSI key is used by applications to confirm licensing of the product.
A little research online and I see some people stating not to update unless you know which application is using it as it could be Malware.
Then a little more research and I found that apparently Corel uses tool app for some of their applications but the post stating this was from back in 2004 before Corel took out Ulead (sorry I mean purchased).

Does anyone know if Corel VSX3 is using the Protexis Inc software to confirm licensing?

Here is what WIN7 is asking
https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B6qc5g ... MWE1&hl=en

I'm also going to post a question to Corel support but their answer are usually much more vague then the replies I read here.

Cheers

Hello AussieTX,

Yes, VideoStudio X3 and other download version of Corel programs uses Protexis but as far as I know, the protexis is included when you install the program, so no update is required for the protexis for Corel. But if you installed a program that also uses Protexis, I would recommend that contact the Tech Support of these program to confirm if you need to update the protexis as requested by Windows.

Thanks Abiel

I just wish there was a way to tell which app is looking for the update if its not Corel.

Cheers

We understand that Corel continues to use Protexis. But as Abiel says, no update should be required. And given that the people in this thread are the only ones to report a problem in this regard, when all users of X3 and other recent versions of VS are also running it, I can only think that indeed some other program also uses it and it is that installation which causes the problem.

i found out this was related to windvd 9 i use to have that but i no longer do. but also if i kill the task windvd 2010 will not play HD movies. so it is windvd stuff and has malfunctioned and apparently protexis has a update for the issue.
