no audio V.S. 9 in windows 7

Post by amosspector »

I just installed windows 7, and my good old VS 9 stopped producing sound. I tried the compatibility check, but that didn't do any good. Anybody is familiar with the problem?

The very same V.S.9 worked fine with XP.

I am absolutely amazed that it worked at all - VS 9 was released long long long before Windows 7 was even thought of - the only solution to your problem I'm afraid to to update to Version X3.

Not surprising, VS9 was out way before WIn7 was a thought or idea in MS mind. Actually VS 9 will not work properly on Vista. There was never a patch issued for it to be compliant with VIsta, and there will not be. I know MSP8 will work on VIsta, with a small caveat, and that too is the audio. MSP8 has a preview method called Quick Play, along with Instant Play. Quick Play is the only way you can hear the audio when using on Vista. So there must be something drastically different in the way XP handles the sound/audio, compared to Vista and Win7. Unfortunately VS 9 would not have such a function.

Thanks Brian/Ron for your quick replies, even though they are "can't-solve-your-problem" replies. I tried X3 some months ago, and found that it was terribly slow; MUCH slower than V.S.9, which is why I stuck with the older program. VS9 gives me all I need, so I don't see any reason to pay with slowness for something I don't need. One solution I DO have, which is go back to XP, but I'll wait with it.

Do you, experts think that version 11 will work? I've tried it also before, and it wasn't that bad.

Well one more option is to create a dual-boot system, Win XP and WIn7. Use Win XP when you want to edit video with VS9, Win7 for everything else.

Hello amosspector,

VS 9 is not compatible with Windows Vista and Windows 7, even if you use the Compatibility mode of Windows 7, it is not guarantee that it will work, since VS 9 was released even before Windows Vista and Windows 7 was being developed.

If you wanna try out VS X3 which is fully compatible with Windows 7, you can download the free trial and use it for 30 days at http://www.corel.com/trials.

Thanks Ron and Abiel for your suggestions.

Great minds think alike, as one of my professors used to say. A friend of mine told me that XP and win7 can live in the same house without fighting, and I spent some time today to read about this option in the net. I'll probably ask my technician to re-install XP, and hope for the best.

Abiel, I've tried the pro3 version before, and it was very slow for me. I LOVED the speed at which VS9 worked on my quite powerful new computer (when it was XP), and I don't want to give up that speed. will version 11 see eye to eye with Windows 7?
