Unable to uninstall VideoStudio

I cannot uninstall Ulead Videostudio se DVD. I want to reinstall as there are problems with the programme. As soon as I try to unisnstall from Add/Remove progs a box comes up saying that InstallShield (R) Setup Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close. etc...

Hello and welcome

Unfortunately you didn't tell us which version number of VideoStudio SE DVD you are using.

This procedure is for version 11 :-

but you may be able to adapt it by changing numbers for the appropriate files - failing that post a version number and there may be a knowledge base article for it

I can't find a procedure for version 8 - I don't think there is anything that old on there - I did find this for version 9 :-

it may work if you just change the 9's to 8 in the procedure all the file and folder positions were the same in those earlier versions.

Hi

I found some very old info regarding VS 8.
Maybe the folder/files shown in 2 and 5 are relevant to VS8.


1) Clean up C:\Windows\temp directory.
Uninstall anything to do with VS 8.
Clean up all files in C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Temp folder.
Uninstall VideoStudio 8 using Control Panel Add/Remove programs.

2) Delete folder {4F1DA6BF-3614-48A1-9970-9E90F646789E} in C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information
(Make sure you set "Show hidden files and folders" in folder option in OS)

3) Delete the folder "Ulead VideoStudio 8.0" folder in C:\Program Files\Ulead System

4) Run Regedit from Start/Run in Windows task bar

5) Delete folder {4F1DA6BF-3614-48A1-9970-9E90F646789E} in
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\

6) Then reinstall program and any patches.

You could try installing VS 8 and choosing the repair option, just maybe that will correct the corrupt install shield.

I managed to clean up, install and uninstall as I wanted. Then, I reinstalled but unfortunately the problem that I had originally continues. I have an icon ( avideo file, I suppose) in the Ulead desktop that I cannot get rid of. It has a X from corners to corners, seems to have a name of an old file. When I try to open it it says the original does not exist, but If I try to delete it, the programme crashes. I have deleted all the files that I could find where this ghost file could be, but it stays there even after reinstalling.

Any ideas?

Can you explain a little further.
Is it in the VS8 library.?

When you re-installed VS did the library revert to the default state or do you see some of your clips.

Something to try
Shut down VS8

Are you able to find this folder:-
C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio

If so re-name the 8.0 folder to “8.0copy”
Re start VS8

Did that make any difference.

Tools-Folder Options-View—select Show Hidden Files and Folders.

Great. It seems to have worked.

I say, seemed, because I did not have a 8.00 folder but a 10.0 folder, probably left over from an aborted install of the 10.00 version. However, after opening the prog again it created anew 10.0 folder (even though my prog is 8.0) !!!

Whatever, if you have managed to get the program working then that’s all that matters.

Sorry for the delay. I thought I always got an email advising of a new post. Well, aparently I have Version 10, even if the disc and accompanying literature said 8.0

I guess all is well, then.
