I am new to all this so I hope this isn't a stupid question.
My camera (Canon HV30) captures a larger image than what displays in the viewfinder. So after downloading the footage, I realized that there was some clutter around the edges I didn't see in camera.
I've been trying to find a way to "crop" the image to get rid of the clutter. I don't want the overall size reduced, just the image zoomed in to fill the frame without clutter.
I've not found a way to do this.
Any help appreciated.

Are you wanting to crop an image as in photograph or the video clip? You can crop your video clip in VS, using the Crop filter. Just drag it and down and drop it on your clip. Then press the Customize button to make adjustments to the width, height, and location. Now it will place a black or whatever color you choose, border around the clip. You can uncheck the box to use a fill color.

Re: Cropping a video image
I am also intrigued by what you say about capturing more than appears in your viewfinder. I have the Canon HV20 and what I see is what I get. In fact, you are the very first person I have seen on this forum saying that there is more than what they can see on the viewfinder of a HD camcorder. So how much more do you see -- 10%? 20%?
It could, after all, be a case of you not really noticing what else is in the viewfinder when you are filming and concentrating on the main thing you are after...

but do also note that many TV's also crop the image so that you do not see as much on a TV screen as you do on a computer screen - before you crop to much check your video on the device you will mostly watch it on.

Hello kerrya,
If you want to crop video, you can use VideoStudio X3 and if you want to crop images or photos, you will need to a photo editing program like PaintShop Pro or PhotoPaint, if you do not have any of those program, you can download a free trial at www.corel.com/trials.
