No, the new computer probably won't happen until August or so. I didn't want to buy X6 until I had the new computer with more memory and faster processor. As it is, X3 sometimes takes forever to render some of the special effects on the computer I have now. It was worth giving the trial a shot though, even though it doesn't seem to be working out for different reasons.

Reinstall Windows? Isn't that a bit extreme to fix a product issue? I honestly can't jump through that hoop at the moment. It does seem to be something about Java though. I rarely ever use IE so hadn't noticed that the Java stopped working. I tried Bing as you suggested and then looked at it in Firefox where Java is still working. Oh my! I see! IE shows the plugins enabled but obviously are not working properly. Funny thing is you need Java to get Java on the Java site. I tried the downloaded version via Firefox (found there is a version 8 released) and IE sees it the add ons, but still not working. I even found that there is special version of IE customized with MSN and Bing. Thought maybe that would fix it but it didn't. So I'm at a standstill after trying a bunch of things with Java. I've wasted another whole day playing with this. What I don't understand as far as Paintshop goes, is why the crucial "Next" button would be done in Java script that relies on the IE Java integration, but not the "Cancel" and "Finish" buttons.

Thanks for your insight.

If you can find the reason why the button doesn't work, I will be grateful if you share it with us. Until now, no customer has found this out or shared the solution with others.

Updating Java won't have any affect on JavaScript. http://www.htmlgoodies.com/beyond/javas ... Script.htm
I wish I could offer more advice, but this tidbit of knowledge is about all I know. I googled how to enable javascript in ie and got this page http://support.microsoft.com/gp/howtoscript which shows a step by step of the settings in ie to set.
How to enable JavaScript in a web browser?
This Web site uses scripting to enhance your browsing experience.

To allow all Web sites in the Internet zone to run scripts, use the steps that apply to your browser:

Windows Internet Explorer
(all versions except Pocket Internet Explorer)

Note To allow scripting on this Web site only, and to leave scripting disabled in the Internet zone, add this Web site to the Trusted sites zone.

1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
2. Click the Internet zone.
3. If you do not have to customize your Internet security settings, click Default Level. Then do step 4

If you have to customize your Internet security settings, follow these steps:
a. Click Custom Level.
b. In the Security Settings – Internet Zone dialog box, click Enable for Active Scripting in the Scripting section.

4. Click the Back button to return to the previous page, and then click the Refresh button to run scripts.
I hope this adds something to help you figure it out and I wish I knew more about the subject.
Regards, Dan

Unfortunately, this is not the solution (so far I have seen during the years). Our development team even developed a Javascript fix:
ftp://coreluser-d:corel'02@emeaftp.core ... iptFix.zip
But soon, we realised that the IE settings are not the problem. It's in the system itself. Another program has disabled Javascript in the system.

Because we have no support for X3 for ages, I can't guaranty that it also works for X3. Here is a trick but I would like to do this only if you really follow that instructions. This is a way that is used to deploy software silently in companies.

1. Disable User Account Control (important!)

2. Insert the DVD of PSP.
Note: You need a DVD of PSP otherwise it doesn't work.

3. Open a Notepad file and type (you need to adjust with your details)

X:\Setup.exe /q SERIALNUMBER="TS13R22-1234567-1234567-1234567"

X is for your DVD drive.
Space between exe and /q
Space between /q and SERIALNUMBER
The "" have to written in Notepad. Don't copy my HTML text from here.
Enter your serial number between the quotation marks.

4. Press Windows key + R and type RUN. Hit Enter.

5. Copy the command line from your Notepad file into the RUN line. Hit Enter.

If it's typed correctly, in Taskmanager - Processes, the Setup.exe is shown as running soon. When the Setupt.exe has finished, wait a minute or two.

You should now have the PSPX3 logos on the desktop. When you launch it, you eventually have to agree to EULA.

Thanks for the great resources about java! As for the Microsoft fix, the problem come in when IE doesn't recognized that it is indeed installed. All those settings to change? They don't exist if IE thinks Java is not there, even though it shows in the addons as enabled. Weird.
Thanks again!

@Simone Corel UK You are an angel! Your fix worked as slick as can be!
I've had user account control disabled for a month while trying all the other tricks I could find.
I do have the CD.
I made sure to use notepad as the editor.
The Photo Project Creator icon showed up on my desktop in less than five minutes and Paintshop showed up a few minutes later. However, I had task manger open as well as windows explorer to the Corel folder. It took about 20 minutes for it to be completely done so anyone else who tries this should definitely monitor the existence of setup.exe with task manager. I also saw new folders appear every time the CD would ramp up and get busy again, about every five minutes. I got an error at the end the Video Studio had stopped working. It doesn't seem to have affected the functionality of Paintshop yet... not for any of the features I typically use.
The auto updates were enabled and shortly after the completed installation, I got a pop up that my updates were ready. Well guess what... the "install now" button is also Java and would not respond. Do I care? NO! I'm just thrilled that this is installed and I can use it for what I need for a couple more months until I get my new computer and new Paintshop X6 (or X7 coming soon?)!
If I come across another solution, I will be sure to post about it. Especially since the CD is needed for your fix and the downloaded X6 trial has the same issue. I did come across an idea in editing the setup.xml for a different problem, but thought I could find a way to get around the blank screen and non-working Java Next button. I tried some things before I saw your fix, but nothing worked.
For now... THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!

Ah, yes, there was this ... Project Creator. I'm more than glad that it worked for you.

To all who read the silent installation instructions. This is easy done for some but might be too difficult for others.
Good news is that if you type the text wrong, nothing will be installed or "silent" isn't happened, then you will be stuck again on the EULA window.
