Hi

Where did the video files come from, maybe a camera or have you converted from another source.

You are inserting to library.
Are you able to insert to timeline, right click timeline and select insert video.

Is your version of VS upto date with all patches?

If you were to e-mail the 2010-12-27-7-47-55 video its only 6 Mb, I can have a look on my pc?

Hi

Are you able to create other video formats/settings using the HD PVR HAUPPAUGE device.
A quick web search seems to indicate AVCHD so I would have expected MTS/M2TS files????????

Did you convert the HD PVR video from its original form to MPEG4 using the Arcsoft converter.?

My e-mail is within my Quick Guide link below

I use TOtal Media Extreme for software to capture video from my HAUPPAUGE HD PVR hardware.
When i use TME (Total Media Extreme) software , i have 3 options ....All these 3 option work from my HAUPPAUGE HD PVR when using the software TME but option 1 does not work with VideoStudio unless converted.
1. MP4
2. TS
3. M2TS

When i use TS or M2TS and want to edit those files per VideoStudio , it works just fine but the preview playback is real choppy and i dont like it . However when i use MP4 from TME and i convert it to WMV , the playback preview window in VideoStudio is real smooth and i like it but the downside is that i need to convert the file to WMV everytime which takes too long and i was hoping VideoStudio can take my MP4 in the library or timeline without needing to get converted.

Email on its way with the file.

The TS or M2TS playback being choppy could be due to your PC lacking in horsepower. You could create proxy files that would be a lower resolution, and much easier to work with. Then when you are finished editing, you Share>Create Video File, and the edits would be applied towards your original hi-def video files. Also could you please complete your system information in your Profile section of the User Control Panel? That way we could quickly look to see if this may or may not be attributable.

No ROn, i want you to guess my specs in my computer. :D jk, i have updated my profile which i think my computer runs pretty well on every other thing . I should of rephrased what i said earlier, its just a tad bit choppy but not too bad , still think MP4 when converted to WMV plays real smooth.

Anyways, i dont know how to create the proxy file or to tweak my videstudio to better settings but i wouldnt want to lose my HD at final build

well that blew my theory out of the water. I would have guessed wrong on your system.. I would think that it is capable of a smoother preview, however there is one thing about any version of VS. The preview will most of the time not be smooth, it must throw any editing together on-the-fly. Even though you have a decent system, you are also throwing much more at it.

For more information on using Smart Proxy, it's found in the on-line help..

I am a little puzzled by the fact you say you have only an 80 GB hard drive attached to that computer... If so, how much of the 80 GB is available? That could be part of the problem...

But as Ron says, the preview -- particularly of high def video like that (which is AVCHD) can often be a bit choppy. I get it on my own Quad, but tend to ignore it as long as I can see that all my editing is OK... When I output my final video in high def, though, it plays real smooth...

So try using SmartProxy as Ron suggested. That automatically generates a lower quality mpeg-2 copy of your high def video. That should play smoothly in preview. You do all your edits then they are applied to the final high def output. It will certainly save all that converting to WMV!

It may be a frame rate thing. In another post by the OP he discussed issues with errors produced by his m2ts files (http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=40052) and included a screenshot of the properties of the file. It apparently is 60 fps, which you have mentioned in earlier threads as being problematic in VS.

KeeganJacobs:

As Natal suggests, if your camcorder is indeed producing true progressive 60 fps video, then Video Studio is not able to handle it, and that would be the source of the 'file mismatch' error. I have moreover asked Corel if there is to be a patch for this, but they have not provided any definitive answer. And to make things worse, I don't know of any editing package which can handle that format as it is so relatively new... Did any program come with the camera itself?

The other thing to check is your Quicktime version. If Apple updated it, that may be causing the issue. Unless I'm mistaken, the latest version VSX3 supports is 7.6.

Hi Keegan

I did a google search, cant remember which site but it indicated that your device produced MP4 suitable for XBox use,
and the MTS files for video work, It advised to use the software to convert to another format suitable for editing.

Now Video Studio should be capable of editing MTS files without converting.
You have however to use Smart Proxy, now you did indicate that you didn’t know how to do this.

I know we have asked but for the life of me I do not know which version of Video Studio you are using, can you please tell us.?

Smart Proxy files are generally created automatically, it does take some time, so a little patience is required.

Video Studio X2
You have to activate smart proxy.
Go to File – Preferences-Smart Proxy tab
Make sure the Enable Smart Proxy is selected.

Add a MTS file to the timeline, a proxy file will be created.
View Tools-Smart Proxy Queue and Manager.
Once created a small icon can be seen in the thumbnail, be patient…….
Playback should improve.
If the clip is already in the timeline, right click and select Create Proxy file

Video Studio X3
Smart Proxy is enabled by default.
View Settings - Smart Proxy.

Keegan please confirm you are using Smart Proxy.
