Don't know if I can make it work; quick help needed. TYVM

Hi all,

New here and totally baffled!

I've just downloaded the trial version and have ordered the 'real' version because it looked like exactly what I need. Everything works fine until I go to play back my test presentation in the DVD that recorded it.

When I click on the directory, I get a windows error message: 'This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.'

I can explore the disk but there's nothing there I recognize.

Thing is, I need to prepare presentations that others can view. My understanding was that this software would allow me to make slideshows that would be playable on other computers and through DVD players to televisions.

Is this not the case? Should I cancel my order?

Please help; I'll need to cancel quickly if that's what I need to do.

Thanks so much for any help.

Okay, sounds to me like you don't have a DVD player program in your computer (for some bizzarre reason, Microsoft decided that it wasn't worth including dispite the fact that almost everybody will need one within the next year or two) Fortunately, it's relatively easy to get a free DVD player program.

Simply put a commercial DVD in your drive. All (or nearly all) commercial DVD's come with DVD player programs on the disc so that they can be read on a computer (since the company has no garuntee that there is one on the computer for above reasons) and will install it if they don't detect an existing DVD program.

You can also purchase more elaborate ones if you want. I know Ulead has a pretty good one that comes with Disc Creator, or you can buy it on it's own.

Hmmm. Well I did uninstall Nero v6 awhile back but I still have Roxio v5. Use it all the time for CD and DVD creation. I use Axialis CD player for that equipment and Intervideo WinDVD to play DVDs. The latter plays commercial DVDs without a problem. Very cool application. I use it on the DVD that recorded the ulead slide program all the time.

Meanwhile, though, I've cancelled my order for the 'real' copy of this app (which I had to do quickly before it was processed or I'd have waited and see what came of this thread) and found one that exactly suits me. It's ProShow Gold and it 'thinks' like I do. :)

So, while I really do wonder why the thing wouldn't play when I do have the necessary tools, it's academic rather than critical now. The new app produces files very nicely for a variety of viewers. Which is what I needed because my contract is for a slide show that will play on my client's TV as well as his computer.

Anyway, I really appreciate the help. Forums like this are, to me, what makes the Internet a really invaluable tool.
