I tried to burn a DVD three times and each time in the last few days the same error message popped up after rendering for about 2-3 hours. My movie file is 1.3 hrs long and 2.3gb.
In the Windows xp Event logs, I picked the following two error discriptions:
12/23/2010: Faulting application vstudio.dat, version 10.0.0.0 faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2700.5781, fault address 0x00012afb
12/24/2010: Faulting application vstudio.dat, version 10.0.0.0 faulting module idvdeng.dll, version 3.9.20.501, fault address 0x000e2dca.
My computer, dell vostro 420, uses windows XP pro with 2gb memory.
I did not have trouble burning DVD with Video Studio 12 before. I did install some small applications in between.
I don't know how to fix the problem. I'm stuck here now. Please help. Thanks.

Re: Video Studio 12 error
Welcome to the forums,
Well you provided some of the needed information to help out. What we don't know is what workflow you used, and what the video file properties are. By workflow we mean, did you skip rendering your project to a video file, and jump straight into the burn module (Share>Create Disc>DVD), or did you first render your project to a video file (Share>Create Video File) ? If the latter what properties did you use to create your video file? Was it a DVD Compliant MPEG-2 or some other? Since your intentions are to produce a DVD, you should have used one of the video file templates, like DVD>NTSC or PAL. This way you will have a compliant file that will not need to be recoded when burning a disc.
If you jumped straight into the burn module (Share>Create disc>DVD), then I would suggest trying the other workflow, creating your video file first. Once that is done, clear the time-line by selecting File>New Project. Now go directly to the Share step, and open the burn module by selecting Create Disc>DVD. Inside the burn module select to Insert Video, not project, navigate to where you saved your newly created video file, and insert it. Then proceed on with building your menus, adding chapters, and finally to burning a disc. You may want to first opt to burn DVD folders, this way you can check your work to see if it is how you want it to be.

Re: Video Studio 12 error
Hello jingyugu,
First of all, if you are able to use VS X2 without a problem before, then the problem could be caused by a program that you recently installed, specially if those program are programs in burning CDs and DVDs. You may also want to check if you recently installed package codecs like Klite, since we have received reports that the codecs included in Klite can cause conflicts with VS X2.
Another things, if you have not updated your program, I suggest that you download all updates from this link.

Re: Video Studio 12 runtime error
Thanks for the suggestions.
Sorry to respond late (testing out all the suggestions took time), but the problem persists after I tried all the suggestions, different rendering options, uninstalling other CD and DVD programs, updating all the patches. I even tried to render a sample video clip came with the corel software. It still gives me the same Visual c++ library's runtime error.
I have not specifically installed any package codecs personally. I don't know how to check on a codec like Klite on my computer.
I spent days and nights on this problem. I'm at my wits' end. Please help.

Re: Video Studio 12 runtime error
I am still using 12plus and have encountered RUNTIME ERROR a few times recently.
I did find out what was causing my problem and it may be of some help to someone.
I was trying to create a file of a project that had numerous MTS clips and jpegs. I'd start the rendering and come back in an hour to check on it and the big grey box with RUNTIME ERROR would be there.
What I had to do was take each jpeg segment - many were 4x3 with a 16x9 black box behind them to fill the screen - and create HD files of each of them. I then inserted the new files in place of the jpegs and the rendering was completed without a hitch.
