Upgrade to 64 bit version

Post by lvldcook »

I have been using VS Pro X2 on a 32 bit laptop. I bought a new 64-bit Dell desktop and upgraded to VS Pro X3 shortly after. When I look at the install, the program files are in the X86 Program Files directory instead of the 64 bit directory. Do I need to do a new upgrade install and somewhere designate that I have a 64 bit system? I don't remember the download process asking if I had a 32 or 64 bit system. Does the upgrade handle an upgrade to a 64 bit system from 32 bit?

VSX3 is not a 64 bit application so it will automatically install to the X86 directory.
I have been running VSX3 on a WIN7 64 bit with little to no issues for over a year.

Cheers

Hello lvldcook,

There even though VS X3 is a 32 bit application, you can install and run the program on Windows 7 64-bit without any problem. I've been using VS X3 on Windows 7 and so far, I'm not experiencing any problem regarding stability and compatibility.

Do the devs ever plan on releasing a 64-bit version? My concern is not with 64-bit OS compatibility but rather with resources. 32-bit apps can only access 2gb of ram where 64-bit ones have a much higher limit. This is important for editing large files.
