Hi Ron
I am part way through re-installing after having problems with Mov audio.
One poster described the choppy audio as like a “heart beat”
I had installed VSProX3_Patch3.exe which I assumed to be the culprit.
Interestingly it affected X2 as well, so I assume it to be a “common” or shared file update.
I have installed X3 but not patched as yet, suppose I ought to take the plunge just to see if I can mess it up again.
Sorry Ricohoc for going a little off topic, but it is possible that the latest patch is causing problems.
By the way, are you using the latest version of Quick-Time, this has been known to cause crash problems with VS, the recommendation is to install an earlier version.
Corel does provide a download link in one of their fixes.

Re: Failed to encode the audio
Trevor,
Is your MOV files using the h.264 codec? The only MOV files I have are from my Kodak P880, and it uses the MJPEG codec. These Kodak files had their own noisy problem. Most of it attributable to camera noise, caused by the camera itself. I know when if first surfaced there was fix posted here. However I tend to just avoid using the audio with any of those recordings.
One thing that I've been reading, is that Corel's latest patches for both VS and PSPP, have caused problems. Tends to make me think that someone has been getting into granny Clampet's medicine before work..

Wonder how many know what that is in reference to?

Hi Ron
All types of mov files were affected.
I use Photo-Jpeg from my Panasonic TZ5
H264 from Canon 7D
Other sample mov files were also affected.
I noticed shortly after installing the Patch 3, I had no problems until then as far as I know.
Another poster is having similar problems
cdoughertycd
has re-installed and running ok without patches.
The Clampits, didn’t they strike oil, how are they getting on?
Pass on my regards for a prosperous New Year.

Re: Failed to encode the audio
I just checked, and I'm using QT 7.5.5, maybe that's why I haven't had the problems.
Yep, Jed struck oil while shootin' at some food, they moved to Beverly Hills, CA, tormented Mrs. Drysdale (banker's wife) that were their neighbors. You can still watch some episodes via YouTube.

Re: Failed to encode the audio
I have purposely NOT downloaded the latest version of QT, since it created Win7 computer problems long before I purchased X3. So I know it's not that.trevor andrew wrote:Sorry Ricohoc for going a little off topic, but it is possible that the latest patch is causing problems.

Instead of uninstalling and reinstalling, I'm just going to avoid that single video format causing the problems unless something else becomes affected. I have been able to produce the referenced project in other formats without problems so far.
Thanks for the help and suggestions from everyone. Never concerned about "off topic" remarks, trevor, since there could always be tangential issues related to the initial problems. It's all part of the "help" process, and I appreciate it.
EDIT: Does Corel read/use this forum to correct/troubleshoot problems with X3?

Re: Failed to encode the audio
Abiel is a representative of Corel, and as you have seen, he does frequent the forums. Other than that, not really. If they do, we don't know. There is one other, that may pop in a couple of times a year. He however stays in the background, and I have been told that there are some with Corel that do try to scan the forums for various problems. They do however pay attention to the Wishlist forum. Many new features come from this.EDIT: Does Corel read/use this forum to correct/troubleshoot problems with X3?
