Failed to encode the audio

Post by Ricohoc »

About 12% into creating a finished .mpg file, I get a "failed to encode the audio 2000:1:1" error and the creation of the .mpg file ends.

I've saved the project, closed the program and reopened everything, only to have the same result.

Anyone have any clue? This is the first time this has ever happened, and I have made several videos in the same size and format previously.
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: 2000 kbps
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo
I'm stumped.

EDIT 1: I created an .flv file using the same project just minutes before without any problems.

Since my original post, I even deleted the original audio file, reinserted it in the video and edited it again. Same result. I am now trying to create a .wmv file. As of this writing, the .wmv file has gone past the 12% mark without a problem.

EDIT 2: Created .wmv file successfully. Attempted to create .mpg file again. Same error at 12%.

What is the format of the audio you are using in the project? Where did it come from?

And just a little question: is that a typo with the video bitrate. 2000 kbps is incredibly low, and would give incredibly low quality... And why are you using Frame Based as the Field Order? Is it a slideshow?

AVCHD uploaded from the Sony camcorder from where all the other raw video comes.

Not a typo. I copied and pasted the information in the "custom" selection, which is why I quoted it. Not a slide show. And actually, the quality has been very good.

It has worked well on every other edited video that I've produced. Based on your questions, maybe it shouldn't have worked well on the others.

Hi

Have you tried rendering to Mpeg using Digital Dolby rather than LPCM audio.

Particularly since the AVCHD audio is more than likely going to be Dolby, either 2 channel, but perhaps 5.1 stereo...

Well, I am not using any of the audio from the original video. I stripped it out and put a soundtrack mp3 file, which is what I have done with the others without any problems.

I'll poke around and see if I can do that. Thanks, trevor.

You might have used mp3 before successfully, but VS in successive versions has not particularly liked some mp3 formats, particularly those produced with the LameMP3 codec... It could be that at the 12% mark, you have a problematic audio format. In such cases, we usually advise you to convert your audio to standard wav and use that...

Thanks for that conversion tip to .wav, Ken. I'll give it a shot.

Hi

I use MP3 types quite a lot.
Like most I have had problems in the past with Mp3, but encoded above 192 bit rate.
Most times it works ok, when have problems I use/convert to Wav.

Second nature now, just part of editing.

Had you mentioned Mp3 in your original post you would have been advised to convert.

Hope it works anyway.

An easy way may be to use VS to create a sound file to Wav, this will create one of the entire project length.
Then replace all sound clips.

Converted to .wav, edited audio length to fit video (as done with .mp3), same result. Error 12% into rendering.

When I tried to go "digital" as you suggested in your previous post, X3 stopped working and had to close.

I'm more confused than ever now because I have done what I am trying to do many times before with great success.

Hi

What’s in the timeline at approximately 12%,

Transition effect, filter used, auto cross-fades, titles etc

Digital Dolby, are you saying Video Studio crashes when using this format?

Could be a transition effect, but it is the exact same effect as used at the 10% mark and throughout the video. Nothing extravagant. Just "Dissolve".

When I changed the audio to Digital Dolby, it stops working just past the 33% mark of rendering, tells me that X3 has encountered a problem and must close. It has happened three times.

None of these issues have occurred with the exact same parameters in previous videos. The .flv version of the same project rendered and completed successfully.

EDIT: The audio begins at the very beginning of the project.

New wrinkle.

Changed the audio completely with another mp3 file. Same result at the 12% mark. :?:

EDIT: Took audio out completely. No audio at all in the project. Same result at the 12% mark. :?: :?:

What version number of VS X3 are you using? If it is 13.6.2.69 you may have to re-install, or at least do a system restore to a point before the last update was installed. I'm noticing others experiencing problems after installing the latest service pack. So far I haven't experienced this. I don't run Win7, so it may be tied to it. Whatever Corel done in the last patch seems to be screwing things up.

Restore point sounds feasible, first. If that doesn't do it, I'll opt to uninstall and reinstall.
