MediaStudio Pro project files into VideoStudio X3

Post by dodahday »

I have been using MediaStudio Pro V8 for a long time now and am considering the purchase of VideoStudio X3 to take advantage of the extra and updated featues of a modern editing suite. My question is this, as I am in the middle of editing video footage in MSP8 will I be able to import MediaStudio Pro project files into VideoStudio X3? Also I will be running Win 7 X64 after Xmas so I would be interested to hear if VideoStudio X3 is compatible with Win 7 x64 operating system or if I will encounter problems.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have MSP, but it's highly unlikely that the project files will work...

In any case, it's a BAD IDEA to switch software in the middle of a project! If there's something that you can't do in MSP (or if you are "forced" to switch to Video Studio) I suggest you render your video files to keep whatever editing has been done in MSP, and open a new project in Video Studio.

I don't have Win7 64 either. I think it works... But almost everybody "encounters problems" sooner or later, depending on what they are doing and what formats they are working with...

And yes it is fully compatible with Windows 7, though I don't think you get any advantage with X3 from having the 64 bit version of Win 7...

I do have MSP 8, VS has never recognized *.DVP files. One big reason is the moving paths that MSP uses, another the various overlay possibilities in MSP 8. VS does not have those, so would not know what to do with them. This is another file type that is listed in the drop-down menu, like FLV, that VS is not capable of importing.

Ok, well after doing a quick test, I found that yes VS X3 will import them, however so far I get nothing but a black screen, and it freezes the program if I just try to play them in VS.

Hello dodahday,

Yes, VS X3 is compatible with Windows 7 64-bit, since that's what I'm using but as far as I know project file of MSP is not compatible with VS X3.

Thanks for the replies, I finished my editing using MediaStudio over Christmas and have now purchased and installed VideoStudio X3. it looks to be a much simpler interface with the added bonus of not needing to align transitions. I also tried a trial version of Magix Movie Edit Pro 17 but couldn't get on with that as it wouldn't recognise any of my video files.
Your replies were much appreciated.
