USB microphone

Post by MikeA »

I tried to use my USB microphone for voiceover, but I couldn't see a way to select it. Luckily I had a microphone that plugs into the regular mike socket on the computer. However, it is not as good as the USB one. Can one select input sources like this? If not, it should be included as an enhancement (or more properly, a fix).

That sounds like a hardware issue. Is your computer recognizing the mic?

Don't think so. To test I just went into Nero Wave Editor and successfully recorded my voice using the USB mike. I had to select that mike in the device settings first. I then loaded VideoStudio and tried to record a voiceover. Silence. I don't see any 'device settings' equivalent in VS that would enable me to select the USB mike.

I just tested my USB headset/mic in VS X3. Recorded without a problem. I've used it on previous projects and it always does fine. After pressing the Record Voice Over icon, are you getting the small dialog window with the meter?

Found it. Had to go into Control Panel/Sound/Recording and set the USB as the default. All is good. Sorry to trouble...

Still - life would be simpler for most folks if VS permitted the selection of inputs like Nero Wave Editor, instead of having to go into the depths of Windows to get the solution.
