Im backing up my old VHS tapes onto my computer, ive done this by capturing them using my camcorder and using firewire to transfer it to videostudio etc...
then.. after about 50mins of capturing the video i press 'stop capture' or whatever... it creates the file, i play it for the first 1/2 hr or so and its fine....... but then the audio becomes out of sync.. the audio appears before what is actually happening.... so for example.. you will hear a voice spoken.. then a bit later you will see someones mouth moving....?!?!?!
Whats going on? anyone know how to fix this?? Im using videostudio 7
Video And Audio NOT IN SYNC!
Moderator: Ken Berry
This is a common problem with several causes & solutions. Search the forum for "sync" and you will find lots of suggestions.
You didn't say you were doing any editing, so apparently this happening during capture.
Did your capture device (whatever you're using to convert from analog VHS to FireWire) come with it's own capture software?
Is the audio connected to the capture device or your sound card?
If you are capturing to MPEG, try AVI, if your capture device can do it.

VideoStudio 7 had some problems capturing Type 2 dv material.
If your using Type 2 try Type 1 or try another program to capture with.
Another thing I've seen cause something similiar is let the video flow for
a few seconds for the computer to sync up before hitting record. Sometimes
the wrong audio attributes are written to the dv.avi file.
Also, make sure the camcorder is set to 16bit 48khz.
12bit 32khz can cause problems.
I would try capturing as DV.avi Type 1.

Use TMPEG Encoder to re-sync it -- pretty easy.
If it's selected sections of the capture, just cut that section, re-sync it, then join in VS with "good section." Otherwise, just re-sync whole file.
Go to videohelp.com for download and more help.
Personally, I capture everything from VHS in SVCD format, then go from there. Remember, videotape is analog-recorded, so you have to try to replicate that format digitally -- and really, the closest to that is MPEG-1 (VCD) -- but for me SVCD works very well. And I use the old RCA plugs to capture, except when capturing directly from the digital cable box, where I use S-video and RCA plugs for audio. I've never had any problems capturing through a USB Dazzle capturer, but I see a whole lot of DV problems here, especially with Firewire. Makes be glad I'm "behind the times."
