I have a question on burning DVDs on my computer. I noticed that when I video tape a person talking and burn it to a DVD the mouth and the voice our not in sync. The voice is ahead of the mouth moving. The video is normal when I play it back on the computer in an MPG3 format. It is only messed up when I burn it to a DVD. How can I fix this?
Thanks

DVD burner and Lip Sync problems when viewing Video
Here is some more information in reference to the DVD being out of sync with the voice and the movement of the mouth. I hope this is enough. The drive is a Sony.
1. I have been able to copy DVD and other CDs from this drive
2. I have used this Drive before and it has worked quite well when putting the voice and the mouth movements together.
3. Is it logical to fix a DVD drive or just replace it.

Nothing is wrong with your DVD burner!
You are describing a software problem -- something that happens because of your procedures.
Please tell us what format you videotape in, also what camera you use. How do you transfer the footage to the computer? What editing are you doing? What format sound are you authoring with?
Your exact procedures, in detail.

Out of Sync visual and audio
I am video taping with a Sony Digital movie camera. I am transferring the video using the DV connection to the computer and I am using the Visual Studio Ulead 8 program. The Ulead program does all of the work for me. I just simply say create an MPG1 video and it does. When I play the MPG back on the computer as a file it is perfect. Voice and mouth movement are in sync. It is only when I burn this MPG1 to a DVD that the final product is out of sync.
Next I wish to create a DVD and the software sets this up as well. I have used this software before and it has worked perfectly. The software allows me to set up the background and chapters. The software then will create the DVD from a menu. I can visually see the Percentage bar go across the screen as it prepares the audio and visual as it says it is doing in Ulead. When that is done it burns it to a DVD.
The procedure is very simple as the program does all of the work.
I hope that is enough information If not please let me know

You don't mention inserting transitions when you edit. One reason why this might be relevant is that some transitions have been found to create the famous "OOS" (out-of-sync) glitch in an otherwise perfect video: what you see doesn't match what you are hearing.
As I understand it, if you insert a crossfade transition between clips, the video has to be "shortened" so as to make the new clip fade in under the fading-out old clip. Of necessity this means overlapping parts of the video that were not originally that way.
This shortens the video and can create OOS. I don't understand why the sound doesn't suffer from this kind of editing.

I found that out of sync audio using VS 8 was caused by installing the update patch and using smart render.
Either reinstall without the patch or do not use smart render.
Follow the procedure in the top post.(Announcement)
Basically:-
1 / Capture
2 / Edit
3 / Create a Video File (from options-disable smart render) this may cure your audio out of sync.
4 / Start a new project edit the project settings to match the video file made in 3 above.
5 / Share / create disc / ---Add Video---use the file from 3 above
create a video file first (ts folders) to play on your pc, (Power Dvd Player) to check out of sync’
Hope this Helps

Dan,
Search the forum for "sync" (synchronization) not "sinc."
This is a very common problem which seems to have several different causes & solutions.
From my experiments, an MPEG file can be corrupted and still play OK. But, when the DVD encoding process demultiplexes & remultiplexes the audio & video, they can get out of sync.
