Glass Effect

Post by princess111 »

Has anyone done this or can it be done - How do I create a glass window effect in front of an object - that is, make the object look like it is behind glass. I have a picture and part of it, I would like to make it look like it is behind a window - like your looking at it through a window.

I'm no expert, but for the actual glass, I would suggest creating a new raster layer, then with the retangle selection tool (if you want a retangular piece of glass that is), mark the area of the background where you want your glass to be. Click on the colour pallet and choose "gradient" from the dialogue box, experiment with different gradients (black and white, dark grey to very light grey etc) and number of repeats. Using the fill tool set at a low opacity, fill in the selected area. I found a fair bit of experimentation and "undoing" was necessary to achieve the sort of "glass window" effect I required.

Here's a quick example demonstrating the gradient effect on a background, although best suited to looking through a window from the outside to the inside. I hope this has been some sort of help to you.

Hey Chevvyf1:

My version is X3. I went to http://www.pspug.org/tutorial/html/tutf ... dow_v7.htm and copied the files just as it said to do and this plug-in did not show up under the plug-ins. Does this not work with this version. It did not mention version X3 on their home page. I even added these folders under plug-ins in folder locations, so the software could find this plug-in.

Thanks

Princess111, I also have X3 and these plugins show up for me.

Under File Locations, for plugins, do you have "Limit Loaded Plug-ins files to those with .8B? extensions only" turned on or off? With this turned off none of my plugins show up. With this turned on they all show up.

Hey LeviFiction,

Under File Locations, for plugins, I have "Limit Loaded Plug-ins files to those with .8B? extensions only" turned on. The KPT plugins show up.

When are going to create more exciting YouTube videos?

Thanks LeviFiction.

I've never made exciting videos. I tend to fall asleep watching them myself. But will be putting up more when I have the time and place to record them....so who knows.

So, you've run the kang.exe program to extract the plugins to the Knag folder. The Folder Locations are set to point to that folder. All of the plugins (e.g. azgen1.8bf, etc.) are in that folder. Have you tried moving the plugins?

I always place all of my plugins inside my own plugins folder in my My PSP Files folder and point File Locations there.

Thanks LeviFiction,

I did go into file locations and opened the plugins folder, in the left column, and told the software where I had placed the extracted files in the Programs folder under PaintShop, under plugins - which is what the instructions for the download told me to to.

So do you have it working then? If not did you try moving the location of the plugins? If that didn't work do you have "Use Sub-folders" turned on? Because Kang is a subfolder.

princess111 - did you just put the plug-in exe in your plug-in folder or did you put it there and run the exe? Running the exe is what creates the plug-ins. You probably did run the exe but I didn't want to assume.

Kathy_9 and LeviFiction:

I have downloaded the zipped folder from: http://www.pspug.org/tutorial/html/tutf ... dow_v7.htm. The instructions on this web site say:

In the download file on the left, you'll find Kang's Filters and the image that we use in this tutorial. Just unzip the filters into your ..\PaintShopPro\Plugins folder and you're ready to begin.
Open "Sbeginpic.jpg" from your download file or another image of your choice. Go to Window || Duplicate so you can work on a copy of your image, and close the original image.
Go to Effects || Plug-ins || kang 4 || gemBars2.

Now, I'm confused. What do I do next? There is no Plugins folder in the PSP folder under My Documents.

I unziped the filters and placed them in my ..\PaintShopPro\Plugins folder, in the progams/Corel/PaintShop Photo Pro/X3/PSP Classic/Languages/EN/PlugIns folder. It did not work. I went to Folder Locations/PlugIns in PSP, and added this folder to my plugins list of files. And, this did not work. What am I doing wrong or missing.

Thanks.

Take a look in the folder where you unzipped the filters and double click on a file called Allkang.exe. This will create the plug-in folders for you. Let us know if this helps - good luck.
